1. You're either in a pool, in running shoes or on a bike while everyone else is asleep.
2. Your bathroom smells like chlorine.
3. You have the same amount of workout clothes to wash as you do regular laundry.
4. You balk at paying $14 for two chicken breasts but are seriously considering spending a couple of hundred dollars on a wetsuit.
5. Your home looks like a cyclone hit it because who has time to do housework?
6. You're starting to think your cat no longer recognizes you because you're either at work or out training.
7. You want to eat. All. The. Time.

Right? :-)

Yep. And the longer the event you're training for, the more each one is true. (i.e. MORE workout clothes than regular laundry. I mean, 13-14 workouts a week across 3 sports is pretty common, but most people don't wear two different normal outfits every day.)

Especially #7. Honestly I think that was one of the hardest parts of IM training. I just got tired of eating all the time. Especially of getting hungry at stupid times like 10 PM or, worse yet, 3 AM (which happens if you're too lazy to fix something to eat when you get hungry at 10 PM after a big training day.)

I reuse my tri shorts quite a bit and go several workouts between washings. Is that gross?

Btw, I love your list.

Your 5 year old sleeps till 7, except when you try to get in an early trainer ride. Then he sleeps till 10 minutes into your ride and wants breakfast, TV, someone to play with, makes a mess, you need to see this cool bug in the livingroom, why is the grass green, why isn't your bike moving, I can fix it for you...

Yes.

For someone that's been doing it awhile, I'll add:

Laundry - I'm generally 2x a day on workouts so my laundry requirement for workout clothes vastly exceeds that of normal clothes

Soreness - I have muscle soreness all the time unless I take some days off.

Injuries - you'll learn (often the hard way) there's a lot of "-itis" injuries that can and will derail your training.  You'll learn, after the fact, what you should have been doing (strength training/foam rolling/proper fit) to prevent a reoccurrence and/or rehab the current injury.

Great times on the swim and bike are only good if you can back it up with a good run.  Pacing is a little bit art/science...even veteran racers screw it up a lot (for them, it's usually overbiking which leads to a suboptimal run).

Friends and Family - nobody is as excited hearing about how many miles you s/b/r last week as you are about talking about it.

Swimming before work - if you forget to pack your underwear you can go commando but if you forget to pack your sock you need to stop at Walmart and buy a pair
