Hi Bill,

The sun made a brief appearance earlier this week but it's been cold, wind and rain here. In our northern states of Queensland and New South Wales they have had unseasonably warm weather around 30C (85F) for a few weeks now. There are many bush fires in regional areas.

I've been training very consistently and with increasing intensity the last 5 weeks. This will go on hold on Monday as we are going for a holiday in New Zealand for 3 weeks. When we return I'll have 7 weeks to race 1 for the season. I bought a season pass and got an "early bird" rate of 6 races for the price of 4. I also got a further 20% off as the group I train with are partners with the race organizers. I'm really looking forward to this tri season, it may be my last as I pursue other interests and go through my Bucket List.

I just started training again for the fall/winter. Never made it to a single race this summer. I am back at the beginning again. There's always next year!

Just continuing my “training” (swims & walks)....no biking other than some spinner time at gym to “warm” up for a lifting session. Very short swim this am....yardwork yesterday has left me with some lower back muscle spasms-lifted a heavy bag of soil and rotated ackwardly...knew it the second I did it. Walking like a pretzel today....taking it easy.

Rock there are always more races. Bill I’m sorry to here about the back, that is one thing I can say without a doubt that I know how you feel. I have been just doing my HIIT training and running here and there, which has got to kick way up for the Houston Marathon in January. Between work, family, and the start of deer season (archery) I’ve been really busy and not on the internet very much.

Added - I also don’t know why but when I’m not training for a Tri I just can’t make myself log the workouts here. The only thing I can think is that they are in my iwatch and therefore don’t need to be logged again. I don’t know!

I forgot to mention (a good chunk of the reason my summer plans got screwed up), my youngest finished the Pacific Crest Trail! 2650 miles from Mexico to Canada along the spines of the Sierra's and Cascades. Very worth taking the summer off to support him. By the last couple months he was walking a marathon distance in the mountains, everyday! Good stuff, now back to work for me.

Hi Turtles,

Great to see that there is lots of activity even though there is no racing.

It's just over a month to my first race which is a mini sprint consisting of 150 M swim (open water), 7 KM Ride & 1.2 KM run. A nice way to start the season. The swim can be a challenge in rough, choppy conditions. I'm using this race as a warm up for the rest of the season. My focus to date has been on building strength and increasing my running distances.

I need to shed some weight to fit into my wet suit and tri suit. Gained a few extra pounds while on holiday and recent family celebrations.

I've set some modest goals for this race and I'm on track to achieve them. If I make it to the starting line then I've had a win regardless of what happens on race day.

Hey Turtles, got signed up for a 5k fun run this Friday. I want to get an official time recorded to start building on. My pre-race goal is under 30 minutes. We shall see.

Enjoy the 5K! Local Arthritis Foundation sponsoring a local “Jingle Bell” run/walk this weekend; contemplating us doing this and take our 2 dogs along; I ran a number of these events in years past but haven’t participated since having my knees done. We usually walk the dogs 3+miles on Sundays so this event would fit right in...

Thanks guys! I would like to shave about 5 - 6 minutes off that time by next April. Swimming is still my weakness and plan to really work on that over the winter. Trying to build up to 500 continuous yards per session. I am up to 250 at this point with the rest of my workout being 100's/breaks.

Hi Turtles

I had expected to be writing a race report by now but unfortunately injury has prevented me for competing in 2 races so far this summer. I was very happy with my preparation and felt in a strong position however I pulled up sore in the hip after a 5KM Fun Run and haven't been able to run since. Rather than feel sorry for myself I've focused on what I can do and I've been training more frequently in the pool. I'm making some gains with my swimming. I'm heading out for a "light canter" tomorrow and will see what happens. Next race is on 12 January.

Hi Turtles,

I'm sure you've noticed that the end of the year is fast approaching and that means that this forum group will get archived in the new year.

Before it does I wanted to wish you all Happy Christmas and all the best for the new year. I particularly wanted to reach out to Todd to thank you for mentoring the group for many years and to wish you well in your future activities.

Went out for a 5 KM "run" this morning with the plan to walk the first 4 KM and see what happened after then. It took some restraint not to run until the 4 KM mark. When I started to run I lasted only 20 metres, something definitely wrong so it's off to the doctors next week. Depending on the outcome I may end up doing the swim and bike then retiring or walking the last leg in January's race.

Happy Holidays to all!!

Rod, sorry to hear about the injury; hopefully the doc will provide good news. As you may recall, I’ve walked the run portion all the tri’s I’ve done; so if that’s what you decide to do I’d not sweat it!!! Besides you’ll probably walk the distance quicker than some will “run” it. Take care....

Progress is good!!!

Turning up consistently and making the effort is half the battle.

X-rays revealed wear and tear consistent with my age so that's a relief that there is not an actual injury requiring an operation. No doubt if I lose some weight I'll reduce the stress on my body. That's going to be a challenge with all the Christmas festivities at the moment.

My trainer has recommended a physio so I'll go and see them.
