Run
Comments: Started out quick, not fast, to get ahead of the masses and onto the single track. Then I kept the same effort through the first mile, and then started to pick guys and one female off. Had my eye on one guy who had passed me at the start - kept him and about 3-4 others in sight, but just couldn't ever pass them on the downhills or uphills- so I fell back and cruised for a mile or so, no one was behind me - and then I picked it up again the last mile - pretty hard to get going mentally without people around - that is a clear sign to me that I am little over-reached right now. When I can't dig deep mentally, that's a problem. I was able to pass people on hills and I ran every step of it, which I was happy with especially as I saw others walking!! the hills. What would you do differently?: Be more rested as in take yesterday's ride easier - need to keep in mind that I need to do my recovery rides alone or with Melanie. Post race
Warm down: Ate - eggs/pancakes/sausage/OJ and ran back to the car in the pouring windswept rain. It was COLD. What limited your ability to perform faster: Fatigue - straight up. Event comments: Best race I have done in a long time - I wish there were more races like that around - trail races, rocky conditions, twisting, turning, up/down etc. Just overall lots of fun and the breakfast they have after is well worth the effort and price!
