I recall being told that you should get the best frame you can because the components can be upgraded as you progress. The best bike frame is the one that fits you best. With that kind of budget you should be able to find a bike shop to fit you properly to a high quality bike in the first place.

Any frame is going to be fine, your biggest concern should be getting good wheels.

If you get a set that can’t handle your weight, you’ll have broken spokes and out of true wheels pretty regularly.

With a budget of just under $10k, you have access to basically any bike you want so, take your time and find the one that fits you best.

It's a new bike. I've been racing for 20+ years (not fast, but racing)

  1. Test rides to gauge fit of certain frames.  Lots of frames come with different component levels.  What you like online may not translate in the store.  If you've been racing you know the importance of frame fit, and it's really magnified in a tri bike because you are looking for power in a very odd position.
  2. Then ask at the shop about wheels.  I 100% agree that a Clyde needs either custom wheels or maybe you can find specs for certain brands that will work.  I know lots of big guys that suffer through a 1000 flats before they accept they need something special.
  3. Spend less than 10k (less than half that) and put the rest into other gear, such as a power meter, watch, great wetsuit, etc.

Happy shopping!
