Wonder if anyone does and if so what accommodations they may have made to train or stay on track with it.

I am getting back to tri this season after about ten years away. I had stopped running due to ankle pain. I thought it was arthritis due to multiple injuries when I was younger. Last year, I started allopurinol after getting a huge tophus on my elbow and some decreased kidney function. Almost overnight: VOILA! my ankle pain went away. In hindsite, the joint was filled with crystals.

I started running again and I can’t wait to start racing.

So to answer the question, my accommodation is Allopurinol. If you aren’t taking it, I would suggest getting to the doctor ASAP and getting a prescription

Thanks, yes I am on allopurinol, but still get occasional flare ups. Especially if cut too much weight too fast due to uric acid dumps.

I don't suffer myself, but my husband who is a cyclist does. His biggest factor is cutting out refined sugar from his diet. Additionally, he is also one that believes in natural remedies and has found that capsules of: Alfalfa, Spinach, spirulina and turmeric help. He didn't like the way the prescription meds made him feel. When his diet is on track he has very few flare ups.

No problem! and as a side note...I just also booked tickets to go to Kalispell this summer for a family wedding. But its only 1 week before one my my tri's - is there a bike shop you'd recommend to rent from for just a 1 day road bike rental? and also - is there a beach on the north side of flathead that is good to start for an open water swim?

For OWS you could also check out Whitefish Lake in the town of Whitefish about 10 mi north of Kalispell. Can't help you with a bike shop in Kalispell...google is your friend. Be cautious riding around those parts. Lots of people looking at the Mission Mountains and other scenery when they should be keeping their eyes on the road.

Wheaton's would be the bike shop to call/go to, Somers has a nice large public beach and a good chunk of it is in a bay and somewhat protected, it also has an island that could be used as a route to go around. Foy's lake is very pretty and also has a public beach on the east side, and an island to swim around. Enjoy the Valley!

Forgot to mention - make sure to bring a wet suit, water is cold and I am not aware of a local shop to rent a swimming wet suit. I believe the places that do rent them are white water rafting wet suits.

Thanks for the tips about the cold water and bike shop! I have a wet suit - we'll see if I have room to pack it. Trying to fit 2 people's stuff into 1 checked bag to avoid the extra airline fees. we'll see if that works out! :-)
