Subject: Which race?
Looking at races I want to do this year and I have it all worked out except for one last choice to make.

A : a sprint with a shortened swim (400m) or a B: real sprint the week before

I have made a list of pros and cons and I think I know which one I will do but I’d like to hear what you people of BT think

A: pros
42 miles closer.
The date is more convenient
A Cons:
shortened swim
early start, would have to go there the day before and stay in a hotel

B pros
Real sprint with a 750m swim
Competiting in my age group
Later start, would not need to stay over
B Cons
It’s a big holiday in Sweden that weekend. We have guests staying until the Sunday (race is on Sunday though)
42 miles further away
It’s a really tough one, I’ll probably be DFL
Would have to leave early to drive there

So, watcha all think?

I say go for A. Guests can cause unnecessary stress and you need to be well recovered before a race!

Wait...you're trying to choose between races a week apart?

What about the obvious "Do both?"

Is this race a preparation for something else where the 400m swim is an important factor?

42 miles closer is 45-60 minutes, but on what length drive already?  (3 hours down to 2, or 90 minutes down to 45 minutes?)

Would your guests stay until you got back from the race, or get up to see you off at 0-dark-30?

Don’t want to do both for a variety of reasons, recovery time and cost are 2 that spring to mind. Family time a 3rd one.
Not a preparation for anything, I don’t have a A race this season. Although I will do my first Oly so the longer swim would be a better preparation for this.
2 and 3/4 hour down to less than 2
No, they would leave before I get back and I wouldn’t want them to get up early for me.

In the mentor group I posted this in, it was suggested that the guests come and watch. Not a bad idea, as it’s on their way home.
