Subject: Wheel upgrade from Mavic ksyrium elite
Any recommendations to upgrade these wheels I have? 10 sd shimano Mavic ksyrium elite wheels (700c). Of course I'm on a budget and wondering if I would get more bang for the buck upgrading wheels (carbon possibly) vs upgrading my bike. I ride a 2005 Specialized transition. Love the bike but would wheels help me fly?

TIA for the comments,

Sean

What kind of speed improvements are you expecting?

For an Ironman distance 60mm wheels will cut maybe 4 minutes off of your time with the current wheel setup. So if you are doing sprint and Olympic distances you're not talking huge numbers. But maybe 45 seconds fast in an Olympic race is valuable to you.

You can enter your data into Bestbikesplit and do some rough comparisons

But then again, a nice set of aero wheels looks cool.....

Best bang for your buck would be to get a FLO 60 front and a Wheelbuilder disc cover for your existing rear wheel.  Here's the link to Wheelbuilder.

Carbon wheels are fun and pretty to look at. And with Flo, the price point is reasonable. Will they make you fly. . . sure. . . but it isn't gaming changing.

if you do eBay, you can get emails for searches.  I have been following FLO Cycling wheels for quite awhile now.  Late 2014 I picked up a 60/90 Gen1 set for $630 shipped.  2017 I sold them for $650 locally.

Now, you have a 2005 Specialized Transition.  I can't fully recall but I seem have a thought that Transitions (and some other early makes) might have an issue with modern wider wheels and some tires such as Conti GP4k 23c.  Have to measure to the width at the chain stays neck at the crank area to make sure.

BTW, you can save watts with right tires and tubes with whatever wheels you ride.
