Subject: Time Between Sprint Tris Hi everyone,
I've got my first tri in several years on July 13, a mini sprint: 1/4 mi swim, 10 mi bike, 5 km run.
I'm thinking of adding another sprint-ish tri which takes place 8 weeks later: 1/2 mi swim, 11.2 mi bike (what a lot of people might call dirt road/gravel ride but I ride my road bike on dirt/gravel all the time in Vermont ), 5.3 mi hike up and down Monadnock.
Is this timing too close for comfort? How would you handle recovery and then training for the next race? Does it make sense to cut it into two 4 week chunks i.e. Week after 1st sprint cut way back, build for 3 weeks, cut back again 5th week, do some tempo sessions, 7th week taper?
I haven't registered yet for the second race. I'm considering waiting until I finish the first one to decide on the second (it's a small local race, it won't sell out ).
I should add, the second race is called "Full Throttle" but I'm a "Half Throttle" kind of racer. I'm just out to have fun and not get injured. My work is very physical, and being injury free is top priority. |
