Hi all,
Perhaps this has been asked before, but I have never seen it.

I have a tri coming up with a really long jog to T1. Ave T1 times for this event are around 3:25.

When I practice OWS, obviously my suit comes off so easy when it still has water running out of it. So, my question is, is there anything wrong with coming out of the swim (I know, making sure I'm out of people's way-off to side) and just pulling off the suit there and then running unencumbered the rest of the way to T1 with it over shoulder?? Running 150 yards without it seems a lot easier.

Anyone want to weigh in on this? Please don't say make sure you are out of people's way. Already know that
Thanks!!

Many races will have strippers. Oh ok in this case the stripers are there to help strip the suit off you at the water.

I would check with the race information or e-mail the race director about this. As others have said, if there are wetsuit strippers, they are usually at the exit from the water. In that case it's fine to "strip" there and then carry the wetsuit to transition. I would use them unless (in my case--I'm really cold-blooded) air temps are really low and I'd rather keep warm on my way to transition, or you have some kind of physical issue where it would be more comfortable/safer to take off your own wetsuit (also my situation--a bunch of hardware in my arm and, if I did race this year, which I probably won't anyway, I wouldn't want anyone else pulling off my wetsuit over my touchy elbow!) If you want to take off your own suit, you can always stop in the general area of the wetsuit strippers and wriggle out yourself.

I do not wear a wetsuit, but saw in Chicago triathlons people running/walking to T1 with part of their suite half way off. Not sure if they took it off while running, or stepped to the side to pull it off, as I just never paid attention.

I pretty commonly (again, unless air is cold) unzip the back of the wetsuit and start taking the top part off while jogging toward transition. I think the poster is considering getting the whole thing off as soon as he exits the water. My guess is in most races, unless there are wetsuit strippers, there really isn't a good space to do that without impeding other athletes. Often there is a fairly narrow, defined path between the water and T1. But that would be a question for the race organizers.

Thanks for the comments.
In the case I'm considering it is a fairly wide area coming up on the beach. Then it narrows onto a path for a short distance before really opening up again. I always strip the suit down to the waste. I have no issue running in it. It is just the unique set up for this event that requires such a long jaunt to the parking lot for T1. My suit comes off a little harder once all the water is out of it. There are no wet suit strippers at this event.
Thanks again for weighing in. I appreciate it

Ha, just raced Escape from Alcatraz and that was a BIG issue as they even give athletes mini-transition with bags if they want to change, put on shoes, etc for the run to Transition.

I did this....
Stuffed aqua socks in the pant legs of my wetsuit for the swim. Looked odd... but did not notice them at all on the swim.
Popped out of the water, unzipped and found an open spot, peeled the wetsuit off myself, aqua socks popped out, took suit all the way off, threw on aqua socks and grabbed my suit and headed to transition.

0.63 miles on gravel trail and then sidewalk. Took 7:45 from water exit to bike mount.
