Champion ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I have one. Useful as part of a structured swim workout. Not recommended if you’re only goal is to swim faster while using it. |

Member ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Are you talking about a pull buoy (a training device) or a buoy for ows (a visibility enhancer)? First two posters thought pull buoy (Or, at least that is how I read their posts)? But I read your post as the visibility enhancer. I have one (a buoy for ows) and won’t go in the lake without it. Great for making you visible to boaters and other lake uses. Could be used as a semi-flotation device in an emergency. |

Veteran ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Assuming you mean a buoy for OWS safety... I just got a SpeedHound brand one and tried it for the first time yesterday. I couldn't tell I was pulling it other than the few times my hand hit it (I think the wind blew it up closer to me). Mine is a cheaper one that does not double as a drybag. I don't need that functionality but read descriptions carefully if you are looking for that. |

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() Ave 100 time is about 2:12 need to work on it. the Swim buoy is for open water swims when I did them in the past I was with a group or my wife had the kayak most of the time (not all) now I think it would be better to have the added safety of the buoy. I ordered the Swimhound and will do my first OWS in a long time on the 7th or 8th. |

Pro ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I misunderstood what you were asking.......there is no downside to swimming with that buoy in open water if you can't have a safety boat nearby, especially if you are not experienced or confident in open water. |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() My friends and I got this and we all love it for OWS. It makes you extremely visible for boats, kayaks, etc. My friend, who stayed at the land, kept seeing us approx. 900 m away. I have an orange one, my friend read somewhere that the yellow is more visible. And provides great mental support, when you know it's there. I still have my partner in the kayak, but knowing that I have this quick access to buoy felt very good. It also provides great support when you need a break. https://www.amazon.com/New-Wave-Swim-Swimmers-Triathletes/dp/B071G8R... |

Master ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I have a safety buoy, too, for training. I love it. There are still isolated open water places where I won't swim without a buddy, but at an inland beach with other people around, I will swim on my own with the buoy. I have the Xterra one. It has a built-in dry bag and it's orange and hot pink. I live in Ohio and there are a lot of state parks with man-made lakes where there are lots of boaters who are supposed to stay out of the swimming area. I swim out near the buoys to avoid the kids playing beach ball, and the safety buoy makes me less nervous when I hear a boat. As an added bonus, when I swim at the quarry with a friend, it's easier for my friend to swim straight because he can see me with much less effort. At first I found it really annoying, but I adjusted it so the buoy is approximately at my knees when I'm standing and it doesn't seem to interfere with my kick at all. |

Member ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | ![]() I love my swim buoy. I have a New Wave Swim buoy. I toss my stuff inside and I don't have to leave it on the beach. Also I don't like to touch the bottom where I swim. I am super wimpy about that. With the swim buoy I just roll over and hold onto the buoy and I don't have to put my feet down. It's fantastic. Also my swimming buddies love it because I'm easy to see and follow. |
