I saw that and couldn’t help but wonder the ramifications of such a huge jump. Will business owners just settle for less profit? No. What to do with the more senior folks who currently make $15/hr? Will they continue to work for minimum wage? No. So you have to increase the wages of everyone...and/or lay people off or cut people’s hours. Ultimately you simply drive up prices on EVERYTHING and we’re back in the same boat.

As I’ve said before, $15/hr might make sense in NYC but not in rural AL.

Lastly, why should the gubment dictate wages? Especially in this economy. If I can find a 16 yo kid to do your job for $9/hr wth would I pay someone $15/hr? Minimum wage jobs are entry level jobs that require no experience or skill.

I started working my first job for da man at $2.35/hr bagging groceries.

It is all part of creating dependency and thus an expanded voter base. By convincing people that the Government who takes your money is good and the employer who provides you with money is bad you drive a wedge between the producers of jobs and the suppliers of labor. Next you convince people their labor is worth more than the greedy employers will pay and that they need the government to force fairness. When fairness is finally enforced the resulting unemployed become a permanent constituency class for the very government officials the created the unemployment. thus ensuring the perpetuation of government control. Fortunately, Berry allowed his verbal BS to overload his own financial truth.

Isn't this story being twisted just a bit? It says the workers are paid 36K as a salary. When these salaried employees work more than 42 hours a week, their pay drops below the EQUIVALENT of 15$ an hour. He's decided not to make them work more than 42 hours a week, rather than making them work more than 42 hours a week. He's cutting the mandatory hours of a salaried employee, not an hourly employee. I've got to side with Bernster on this one, unless the information in this article is not correct.

Nah - all he did was make them salary employees so he could work them as many hours as he needed and not pay overtime.  Anybody who thinks the world will magically be a better place and poverty will be gone with a doubling of the minimum wage probably hasn't been alive very long. (I get your point and I know you don't feel that way mdg

Socialism doesn't work.....it has never worked.

I can't side with Bernie on anything.....he's an enemy of freedom.

I found it interesting that they are a unionized work force, yet salaried. Typical union workers are hourly in my experience. He was definitely taking advantage of the situation until he got caught. He's made good by cutting hours of salaried workers, my opinion. However, let's wait and see when the pendulum swings back and he's suddenly got more work to do, than man hours available to accomplish that work. Where will the money come from to hire all those new people he's going to need? Methinks Uncle Bernie is about to get a real world lesson in economics. I wonder if he'll have an "Aha" moment and suddenly see why socialism fails or if he'll just blame it on the conservative media and Trump for 'creating' the problem for him in the first place?*

The federal minimum wage is 7.25/hr, but 29 states and D.C. have a minimum set higher, and then even some local city ordinances set their own.

Still, with the economy rolling like it is, even in my state, where the federal minimum is in effect, almost nobody works for that.  All three of my kids who are still in college worked this summer......they all made over $13.00/hr.  One of my twins makes $15.00/hr as a lifeguard because it's so competitive between companies for kids who will actually show up.  My son walked into a construction company and got hired onthe spot for 16.50/hr as a laborer.....he got a raise to 18.00/hr after a month of showing he'd be there every day.....he typically works 50 hours per week and gets OT pay of X1.5 for hours over 40. The local Mcdonald's has a sign in their window for 11.50/hr. to start.....they can't find enough workers.

That's how it's supposed to work......get the economy rolling and let the demand dictate pay.  Why is that so hard for some folks to understand?  Why do they want the govt. involved in every facet of their lives? (don't worry, I know the answer)

Rep. Tlaib now calling for 20.00/hr saying....

"Now I think it should be $20 -- make sure America Rising hears that," she continued, to applause. "It should be $20 an hour -- $18 to $20 an hour at this point. ... They say all of this is going to raise the cost, but I can tell you, milk has gone up, eggs have gone up, everything has gone up. The cost of a lot of things that we need has gone up already."

Ummmmm......who wants to tell this idiot why goods and services are going up, and what will happen if you force employers to pay a minimum wage of 20/hr.

2020 landslide coming......get ready Dems.  LOL

One of the Squad said we need a $20 Federal minimum wage.

7 minute abs!

I should run for Congress on the $50/hr minimum wage platform. I will run as a Freechit Chicken in Every Pot candidate where free healthcare is a God given right and so is free college and free housing and open borders.

I wonder if the open border anti-wall people support doing away with customs and immigration checks at the airport? Just get off the plane and go!
