Put 20 miles on the trainer this morning watching the Hungarian GP.

Legs feel good after the race yesterday.

5:00 AM:  8-mile run with 4 x 30" strides.  I have the option on this work out to do all four strides back to back with 2' of Z1 pace for recovery.  I was running on a two-mile course so I opted to just do the last 200 meters of each loop fast then start the first 2' of each loop at the recovery pace.  The rest of the running was at race pace for the 13.1 mile run of a 70.3.

Later today I will hit the pool for a 30' swim.

Steve, how did you do in your race.  I am guessing pretty good is you are getting through a 20-mile ride the next day.

Race went well. Swim was two loops, the first of which I spent concocting the story to tell people about why I quit, then second (after defogging my goggles) was the best OWS I've ever had. The course had a short bike (23.5) but it was a pretty difficult ride, longest climb was 4 miles, low gears, small ring.

Run for me was time to sort of shut it down. I had some nutrition with me, Shot Blocks with extra sodium as I usually cramp, I ended up giving those to other runners that were in dire need. So I took the run with just water and a couple cups of Heed. First loop was right on target pace, then I slowed it down for a couple of miles and finished with a strong last mile, fastest of the race for me.

My plan was to have a long training session and not miss anytime between raceday and 09/08 (IMLP 70.3). Judging on how I feel today, I think I have hit it.

The best part was my youngest son running onto the course at mile three for a hug (he's 10) and my wife right behind him. First race since dying and everyone was on heightened emotions...hahahha

Looks like you had a great race!

22 miles on the trainer.

3x10’ intervals big gear, low cadence with 5’ recovery.

Two laps of Quinn's Pond tonight (about 2K meters), all by my lonesome (plus lots of SUP's, kayakers, and ducks). Normally the tri club has a group swim on Monday evenings, but didn't recall until after I got there that they had a guest speaker at the shop tonight so all the tri types were probably there instead. It's a bit of a drive to the lake and very hot, so decided to just go swim anyway. Not worried about drowning since I had fins and wetsuit on. It was kind of nice to go my own pace and not stress about not being able to keep up with people I normally can swim with, or getting run into by slower swimmers who tend to be lousy at sighting and swimming straight.
