Pre-race routine:

*Overall is female only*

I was staying at an AirBnb approximately 2 blocks away from my starting corral. Awesome situation! Got up at 5:40ish, had an english muffin w/PB and banana and coffee. Left the house at 6:30 for 7:15 start which was WAY TOO EARLY. The corrals were super well organized, no lines for potties, etc. Could have easily sauntered down at 7. Just tried to stay awake.
Event warmup:

The race was supposed to start at 7:15 but something was delaying us. According to my data, I started at 8:25. Needless to say I was getting hungry and tried of waiting. We heard later it was an issue with traffic control. Boo.

Comments:

Started off too fast, I am sure. I was trying to run with the 2:20 pacer but lost her (behind me) at the start. She caught up and passed me before 10k. I reached 10k in 1:05 which is CLEARLY too fast, as was the pacer... I don't know what to do about this. I would have been better off with the 2:25 pacer and hope to drift ahead. Pacers seem to start too fast and bank time, which isn't a good approach for me. Leads to burn out.

Halfway through we ran through the Olympic Stadium, which was super cool. Then we had a long hill to climb out of that. After that I just lost energy. I had all four of my gels (2 before starting...) plus an on course gel and half a banana. Thankfully it got more and more overcast throughout the race, so heat wasn't a problem.

This is probably an acceptable time for me these days, on the slightly slower end due to travel and delays. C'est la vie.
What would you do differently?:

Just go to Montreal for vacation and skip the race ;)
Post race
Warm down:

Was very tired at the end. Walked through the finish line to find my friend and then sat on a grassy slope to eat and drink our free beer. It was a Molson light and very delicious!

Event comments:

Rock n Roll does a pretty good job of big city races. This is my 3rd and it's always been fine. Finish line party was fun!
