Yes, we are relatively normal here at the moment. Other than the boarder being essentially closed we are operating as normal in NZ at the moment, so very lucky compared to most of the world. There are some big benefits to being a small, isolated island, with a very low population density at the moment.

But things are still weird here. Last year I took 40 flights (yes I track my travel just like I track my training... such a geek) so far this year, only 8. So things are very quiet. And, we are an essential industry, my company and our customers were operating during the lock downs, so we are doing better than most. We also have a lot of over seas work that we're not even able to consider doing at the moment.

The country is in a sort of weird 'paused' state for now. With the boarders closed our biggest earners (tourism/international students etc.) are shut down, almost 1 million of us are on a govt. 'wage subsidy' hand out (remember there are only 5 million total, so thats a big number) which is going to run out in 4 weeks, and there's a very good chance unemployment will sky rocket at that point. The country is happy that we have no covid19 out in the community, but no one seems to know what the next step is. Other than sit tight and wait for a vaccine, which could be years away, or never, we don't really have a plan.

That said, compared to Florida, yeah, things are very normal here. haha.

Went and did a "sunset" SUP last night with some new SUP friends. I use quotes for sunset b/c it was way too cloudy to see the sun. And we just missed the storms by about a half hour. Looks like our weather is dropping a little bit, with highs mostly in the 80s next week. Sounds hot still but should be much easier to go outside in the morning and get some runs in.

In KY for the weekend. The pool seems to be open, so maybe I go for a swim for the first time since February. Gretchen, it’s the Mary T Meagher pool if you want to get a win in while here.
I should be getting up right now to go for a ride before the rain moves in this afternoon.. but after flying all week it’s nice to sleeeep.

Good finish for the week for me. Got all my runs and bikes in. But no swimming, as discussed before.

4 x trainer bikes, 4hr 3min total
3 x run, 2hr 37min total.

6 hr 40 min for the week, and now up to 17 consecutive days of at least 1 SBR completed. The negatives for the week were only getting 3 morning workouts in (I'm trying to move my workout time from after dinner to before breakfast) and my diet was pretty crap. So, those 2 things are something to work on for next week.

Looking forward to a good 2nd week of the training plan. Hope everyone else had a good end to your weeks.

Back on the road tomorrow for a week then a month off. Yay! Core work this afternoon. If I wake up early enough I’ll try to get a trainer ride in tomorrow.

Did a boot camp Saturday, and went on a long SUP with a friend on Sunday. She lives right on the water in this perfect SUP location with lots of creeks and such to explore.

Supposed to have vball tonight, but Isaias is on it's way to us, so it may be a rainy night

Nicole, that SUP spot sounds great - hope you were able to get it in.
I’m in Chicago right now, work tonight and tomorrow night then have four weeks off. I haven’t been home in 12 days so I’m ready to sleep in my own bed. I actually got a couple of decent day-sleeps in so I’m ecstatic about that. I can’t wait to get home and go for a bike ride outside.
I hope everyone is crushing their goals! Have a good upcoming weekend!

12 days away must suck. I'm over it if I'm away for 3 or 4 days in a row. Enjoy the bike ride.

Good first half of the week for me.
2 swims, 35 min/1550m total
3 indoor bikes, 2 hr 25 total
1 run, 40min
1 short body weight workout.

On tap for the rest of the week/weekend
2 runs, 1x75 min, 1 x 40 min
2 bikes, 1x 75min, 1 x 30 min
and hopefully 1 more body weight circuit.

Hey all, I did some good right arm exercising last night:

 

Glue

IPA   6.5%

Soft, citrusy and juicy IPA liberally dry hopped with Citra, Motueka, Wai-Iti and Rakau

 

This is Life & Death.

Three kilos of hops and forty kilos of barley selflessly give their lives to brew every barrel of this beer. It’s a lot to ask, but their reincarnation as this life-affirming IPA makes their sacrifice worthwhile.

A ballsy, US style IPA, expect flavours of tropical & citrus fruits, with a lingering bitterness set against a smooth malty backbone.

6.5% abv. 330ml can

 


NEW ENGLAND IPA

East Coasts collide and crank it up for this new New England IPA retuned in Scotland. Brewed with oats and wheat and left unfiltered for a hazy appearance and super smooth delivery. Dry-hopped for a full-tilt fruit hit with pineapple, mango and a hint of zesty lime. Low on bitterness, high on haze, heavy on hops.

Hazy Jane - embrace the opaque.

 

 

This was to celebrate a new job and was accompanied by listening to The Violent Femmes. Now work is all sorted I will be back on the exercise!

Hi, haven’t posted for a while. So what’s new? Finally tried an Olympic distance tri, not a race as such but almost. I loved it, it wasn’t as hard as I thought. There will be more of those but not just yet because a week later I broke my collarbone going downhill on a crappy mountain bike. That was a week ago so still in pain but getting better every day

No, I feel like a twat with one arm. It was a really stupid accident.

Went “swimming” in the nearby lake today. Water supported my arm, it was so nice. Perfected the one arm freestyle without going in circles.

You should give that up, washing up. Obviously dangerous stuff!

This is my current choice of beer/lager. Can’t drink alkohol with those painkillers I’m on.

Quit OK when it’s real cold, but develops a very bitter aftertaste as it gets warmer

Nathalie Sorry to hear about your bike crash. Hope you heal up as fast as you can? Excuse the igonrance, but what is the recovery time like for a broken collar bone? I haven't tried the carlsburg, but I've had the peroni 0% a few times, it's not a bad option.

me I had a pretty good finish for the week. I almost got all my remaining workouts as scheduled. The only change was due to having to double up, I only did a 60 min bike, rather than 75 scheduled.

for the week,
S: x2, 1550m/35min total
B: x5, 3hr 55min total (1x60 min bike was turned into 2x30 min workouts due to scheduling)
R: x3, 2hr 41min total.
Bodyweight, x2, 15min total (7 minute workout app)
total of 7hr 10 min of SBR

Other wise we had a good weekend, with Mr 3 at his grandparents for 2 nights. Mrs Bullfrog and I even got to go out for dinner one evening and had 2 nights uninterrupted sleep in a row. Winning.

This week is week 3 of the IMNZ plan, and is scheduled to be a bit of a cutback week. I'm looking to get 2 swims, 3 bikes, 3 runs, and 2 body weight workouts done. Started the week how I intend to continue with a 45min spin before breakfast.

Well done on a good training week Andrew!

I think it’s about 6 weeks before I can go back to training “normally”. I am seeing a physiotherapist on Wednesday to start rehabilitation exercises.
I won’t rush it as I don’t want complications but I am already bored and restless and can feel fat taking over muscle in my whole body...

Oh no, Nathalie.  Well, now you are on the side of cyclists that HAVE crashed, vs. the side of cyclists that are GOING to crash. 

Glad nothing worse happened and your seem in good spirits...I'm shocked you tried swimming.  Hope you mend quickly.

Well, this week was supposed to be the end of my race season with a 40K time trial.  I tapered for a week and am instead going to race my own stage race on Zwift, 4 races in 6 days of varying lengths and type.  Did a Cat C race on Saturday and held with the lead pack (was even leading with about 3k to go) but couldn't dial it up to finish hard and wound up in 11th.  Really solid race.

Today I'm doing a 24k criterium (which is going to hurt), and then tomorrow is an 18k time trial (which is really going to hurt), finishing up with another road race of some sort Thursday.

    Really? Swimming not a good idea you think? It feels great, the injured side floats around painlessly and the other side does all the work. I went back twice, i don’t think it’s detrimental to the healing process.

    Oh my, ouch! Sorry to hear about your accident, but glad you're still getting some workouts in. I think as long as there's no pain, you should be good to go!

    I've been a bum the past week. What are your favorite motivational workout quotes/mantras? I need some inspiration.

    Probably heading up to my parents' later this week, which will help. It's so nice working out by them b/c they live in a more rural area, so very few cars even come through their neighborhood, and they have plenty of land for me to get a workout in.

    Not a quote as such but if you’re thinking about skipping a workout, think about the feeling you get afterwards. You owe it to your future self.

    I wouldn’t call what I do in the lake a workout but it’s better than nothing. I long for that feeling after a completed session. Tired and satisfied.
