Can someone help me out with a few questions I have for this event?  How early would you suggest arriving due to traffic and parking, and does the swim start from the shore?

Thanks inadvance for any answers you can provide.

The beach is a good 20 minutes from the freeway.  I always show up about 2 hours before my wave start, the earlier the better.  There is a multi level parking garage right at Pier and hermosa (or just north), very convenient, if you get there early enough you can grab a spot.  Few bucks to park.

Just looked at my race report, I got there about 6 and got a spot in the parking garage.

Yes, the swim is from the beach

Is the swim off the beach and head north/south or is more of a straight out and back type?
do you know where they set up the transition area?
I checked their website this morning and didnt' see anything about it....
Thanks.

Swim starts south of the pier, swim out 100 yds or so, turn right, swim north a couple hundred yars, turn into shore south of pier.

Transition is set up on Pier Ave between the Strand and Hermosa Ave, bike out is straight up Hermosa Ave.  Pier Ave is a walk street at that location.

SC.... hmmm.... well, OK, I guess I can forgive that.   Hermosa's a great race, and a good one for a first timer.

Long Beach last weekend was my first tri and it was awesome!
I'm looking forward to HB due to a shorter swim and a slightly more challenging bike.
Also, i've reviewed the split times for my age group from LB and have some mighty goals as far as shaving time off!

Event is sold out.

Chris, how much of an issue do you think it will be to pick up the packet on race day? Not sure I want to trek out to our favorite bike shop the day prior. I also don't want to be standing in a 90 minute line Sunday morning either.

Cheers,
Mark

Mark, I honestly can't remember if I checked in race day of the day before last year.. probably the day before since I don't remember doing much that morning as far as lines go.  I usually don't like to but if it's a trek I will check in on race day.  It just means accounting for extra time to get the number on the bike etc.

Yes, I generally like to go the day before since I don't want to worry about it on race day, but I am always an early show person anyone. Will just have to allocate the time.

Cheers,
Mark
