Rick, that insulation project counts double IMO....tough work, stamina thing!!!

So for 7/6-7/12 I managed 3 swims (6K yards total); 3 lifting sessions; 4 walks (4 miles each with my wife and our 2 Vizslas).

The club where I swim requires scheduling a lane and now limits the time in the water to 45 minutes; I did that yesterday and managed 1800 yards....not sure where/how I’ll find that 200 yards!

Now to my “injury”....I’m struggling with plantar faciitis in my right foot; first few steps in the morning are quite a wake up call! I’d increased my walking mileage with the virus shutdowns and wore out a pair of Brooks Adrenalines. I probably used those Brooks longer than I should (400+ miles). I’m hoping the new pair I now have and stretching will help. I may be forced to “rest” the foot for a while. My wife wants me to call my ortho....she’s probably right but I’ll give it a few more days plus my mileage is less now since I do the walks 3 fewer days...

Hi Turtles,

We've now reached the half way point of the challenge. I'm starting to fall behind with only 9 sessions completed. Looks like it's time for me to refocus.

One of my neighbors is training for an Ironman scheduled for November. It looks unlikely that this event will proceed as planned. We had a good talk about training for an event that is unlikely to occur. I do admire his commitment as he continues to prepare.

Hope that you're all well and enjoying your summer despite the restrictions in place.

Sorry guys, still dealing with work, father-in-law, and went on a vacation (much needed).

Rod, I love the challenge and while coming in way late I’m gonna give it a go and see how close to 30
I can come.

Bill, I don’t know if it will help or not but look at OOFOS recovery sandals for wear around the house and after workouts. My wife stands a lot (teacher) and her feet always bothered her especially in the mornings walking on our wood floors. I bought her a pair and she said they have really helped, but I can tell you no matter what that they are comfortable just to wear if nothing else.

Well I’m off to get in a ride and will post again in a day or two to tell how how I returned full circle over the past two months.

Update 7/18

I've caught up. As of Saturday, I was 18/18. Of course yesterday was a bust because I was out with the wife and kiddos all day. I would have done my dumbbell workout that morning, but I've started experiencing shoulder pain again at he outer tip, so I took a day. Bad part is that I was trying to open a jar of pickles, and when I twisted the lid, pain shot from my trapezius at my neck down the back of my tricep to the elbow. That did hurt. Essentially, I'm a day behind again

Haven't been able to swim, either. The Y I'm able to hit on my lunch break has been closed for deep cleaning due to Covid. There's a location closer to the house that I can easily hit at 0500, but they keep cancelling my sessions due to "lack of staff"

Pushing on through to the end of the month, but 40 isn't going to happen.

Usual week for me last week - 3 swims; 3 lifting sessions; 4 walks; have to say the walks were a challenge due to the right foot pain; yesterday was better but pretty sore today. I’ll be looking into the OOFOS Todd mentioned.

Swim yardage down due to less time in the pool allowed; making reservation is a bit of a challenge; I’m set for another 2 weeks.

One strength session last week was actually a yard project; I didn’t include that in my weekly totals mentioned above. I tracked the time to just see the calorie burn....

Those “Carona Kilograms” Rod mentioned are still hanging on....

7/19-25 Update

Only got 5/7 last week.. 4 walks, 1 weight session. Oddly enough, I'm down to 260.5 this morning (~18 lbs since I started watching carbs closer), and my glucose has been 107, 110 & 115 for the last 3 mornings (win!)... Rest week? hehehe

I've still not pulled out my (or my wife's) mountain bike to do a quick shakedown. Not sure if I said anything before, but the wheel bearings in the WalMart speshul I've been using since '14 gave up the ghost, and new wheels aren't in the works. Honestly, I'd rather save up and get something a little higher on the food chain that I can throw aero bars at.

Good news is that my Y location has opened back up this week. I've got my time saved for tomorrow, and will do Thurs when it opens up.

I did make a bit of a mistake on my strength training. I'm mixing and matching plates... well I have a set of 2.5lb plates that are larger, so I thought I'd been lifting 15lbs... nope... 10. I corrected that yesterday. I've decided that I need to go 20/30 days in a month to move to the next (larger) set of exercises. It's actually a pretty good app, and I may drop the little bit of $ on it to fully unlock it.

Like Joe Dirt, I just need to keep on keepin' on and I'll smash PRs next year.

Usual week last week; 3 swims; 3 lifting sessions; 4 walks. Garmin had issues so some didn’t download; that seems to be resolved now. Right foot is good some days and not so good others; today is a good day for it so far.

Hi Bill,

I'm impressed with your consistency of 3 swims, 3 lifting sessions & 4 walks each week. It shows commitment and I'm sure it will produce results,.

Hi Turtles,

End of the month and end of the July challenge for our group. How did you go?

I missed out with only 21 training sessions completed during the month. I'm afraid the cooler weather and COVID have dampened my enthusiasm. We are required to wear masks when we are outside so going for a walk is unpleasant but it beats getting infected. If you run you don't have to wear a mask but I'm not running atm. Australia is in good shape with most states only having 1 or 2 daily cases. My state had 650 cases yesterday so something has gone wrong here.

Some events for our coming summer are being rescheduled to autumn (fall). This was going to be my last season but my "retirement" will now get deferred as I want to complete 6 events in a season and then call it a day.

I'll spend the next few days resetting some goals and reviewing how to achieve them.

Thanks Rod! I hope the results will help keep me “trim”.....;0)!!

While I met the challenge, I didn’t venture into any bike rides. I’m gonna have to do that to round out things. Just not excited about the bike-the range of motion in my right knee makes it a challenge.

My wife and I had an adult continuing education class yesterday on safety. Then rain washed out the afternoon. So....I had no activity! First “day off” since March. My foot approved!

Rod, take care down there in your part of the world!!

I ended up with 29/31. While I didn't meet the goal, I've definitely made progress in the right direction.

Rod: I'm just curious... 6 events of what distance?

Bill: I'm with Rod on this one, your consistency is awesome.

Hey Rick,

I do the "fun tri". Distances are in the following ranges and build up as the season progresses:

Swim 150 - 400 metres
Bike 7 - 13 Kms
Run 1200 - 3000 metres

All of our swims are open water in a bay. Conditions vary from as calm as a pond to very choppy

All quiet here for some time; all doing well? My swim this am was particularly hard to get going this am...but I got one in. Our girl Vizsla awarded us with her fresh kill this am....she captured a small bird; saw the foot hanging out of her mouth when she came in...I asked her what she had and she laid it at my feet....that girl amazes me....always on the hunt! At
Least she didn’t eat it...yuck...

yeah.... still here.

I did really good with July's carrot challenge. It carried into the beginning of August, and 2/3 of the month was a study in circumflatulation. We even took a trip to Biloxi MS, and I neglected to cash in on the opportunity for a good ocean/salt water swim when we spent the day at Ship Island. If you don't know, "ship island" in google maps will bring it right up, and you will see why I am kicking my own arse over this one. The only good news, is that I'm still hovering around 260, so I am still down 20lbs from earlier this year.

I'm crossing my fingers that the Wolfman Du (https://www.terrapinracingmemphis.com/wolfman-du) actually runs on the rescheduled date on Oct.

Hope everyone else is doing okay!!

Ugh....I put the wrong time in my calendar for this morning’s swim! When I got to the pool someone was in the lane I scheduled; rather than questioning her I checked with club staff....duh-I’d scheduled that lane but for 6:15 am not 7:15...:0(!!!!! I’ve double checked my calendar-times all correct for next 2 weeks.

Hey Rick....congrats on the trip to Biloxi! I spent a summer camp there when I was in the reserves (decades ago.....). Water then left much to be desired.....

Later!!

Good to see y’all are still here and going at it. I have been swamped at work due to employee being out and me having to cover their duties plus mine. We have fought the good fight with my father-in-law, who was brought home yesterday under hospice care. I‘m sitting with him now to make sure he is comfortable and does not need anything. I really have not been riding or swimming but have been running which has been my stress relief. I don’t know if I will do anymore on road triathlons but know that I will stay active and keep running and will likely add in mountain biking when we are camping. It’s funny because thru all of this I know I want to keep up my fitness / health, but also want to spend more time with my family and 3 hour rides doesn’t accomplish that and is more than i need to maintain good health.

Hello Todd!! Sorry to hear the news about your father in law. The hospice team that helped my dad in 2016 had angel wings! They were the best and I’m certain the team there is just as dedicated. It takes special folks to serve in that role. Our thoughts are with you.

Do what you can when you can in respect to runs, etc. I understand your thoughts on long rides like that. In addition to being terrible at it, I could never justify 3-4 hour golf outings....no golfing for me.

Just kinda bumping along here with swims/walks/lifting. We hope to get away for some time in mid Oct; spend some time walking trails with our dogs; so the walking prep here will be helpful. Not “tri’s” but that’s ok.

Hey Todd-

I may be a touch late here, but when Mom was under Hospice care (May-Jul '19), they were really the greatest. There are parts of my grey matter than are not "normal"... I have to say that to say this: After she passed they were really good about getting everything picked up in a timely matter, and were very consoling... Which actually irritated the crap out of me, because rather than helping, it kept bringing her to the surface and I'd be a basket case for an hour or so (thus that earlier sentence). Her nurse was this giant viking-looking dude. Really not what you'd expect. However, he gave top-notch care, and noticed the last down-turn the same time we did.

It’s been a while since I’ve posted anything....staying active and healthy; took a short trip a couple of weeks ago to a cabin we rented; many miles of hiking! Big fires in the fireplace and nice down time.

Weather is great right now; that’s a good thing since the virus has rebounded and indoor dining is now closed; supposed to travel south for Thanksgiving and that’s the plan for the moment.

Pool & gym remains open. Hopefully no new restrictions; tough swim this am for me.....felt like I was swimming in Jello!! Maybe that’s what old age does to a body.

Hope all are well!!
