Something different...

Getting ready for the long hike in a couple weeks, hit the local trails with a loaded pack (20lbs in a 50L pack) for my morning run. Welp...that was hard! Averaged just over 12 minute miles which is not going to be sustainable for 26 miles. Our goal is to run/jog 10 of the 26 miles on both days, walking the rest.

5 miles, trail run!

Mountain biking tonight.

The Ultra Trail runs that my brother does have people doing 16-18 min/mile.  So 12 min/mi sounds super fast to me.  Good work.

I hit the bike trainer for a 60-minute super-threshold workout this morning.

Swimming has been going well.  After 8 months off I am now two weeks into swim training.  The water feels great.  I have been doing about 1000 yards 4 times a week and am building.

Steve, Best of luck with it. My brother tells me the average weight of a pack on a thru hike is about 30 lbs, a lot of that is 4-5 days worth of food. He says he averaged 18-20 minute miles when he did a long portion of the AT several years ago.

30 mile ride this morning, will do a 25 minute stretch routine later

If we can bring our overall time down by throwing in some runs, we will be happy. If we can keep our 26.2 down to 8 hours with stops, that would be ideal, this is about an 18:20 pace. Won't be using the Garmin I don't think, can't imagine it would last for two days...but maybe, it had plenty of battery after JFK 50.

Hit the bike trails last night for an hour of ups and downs. Fun times!

I don't have the confidence on trails that I do on the road.
