AG All-American Honors suspended for 2020. Replaced by "Notable Athlete" honor only

The year 2020 has impacted the global sports landscape in unprecedented ways, and triathlon and multisport have not been spared. The COVID-19 pandemic has forced the cancelations and postponements of many events nationwide, leading to a significantly reduced number of racing opportunities. While some athletes were able to meet the adjusted two-race minimum required to receive a national ranking, we understand there are many who live in areas of the country where ongoing mass gathering restrictions have made it impossible to compete without exposing themselves to risk by traveling out of state. 

After multiple discussions with the USA Triathlon Age Group and Duathlon Committees, it was determined that the qualified pool of athletes is not sufficiently representative to fairly issue the same annual awards as in previous years. 

With these considerations in mind, USA Triathlon will not name Triathlete of the Year or Duathlete of the Year awards for 2020. The designation of All-American for 2020 will be replaced with Notable Athlete. This new category will be given to the top 10% of athletes in each age group (based on a minimum of two races in a discipline). These awards will be calculated in early 2021 once results from all 2020 races have been received.
