I was a bit of a waste this weekend. My roommate moved Saturday so I got kind of drunk Friday (no good beers to report, mostly light beer (Natty Boh for anyone who knows Baltimore's local fave) and then some wine. Saturday my workout was lifting heavy things and carrying them in and out of houses and cars. Sunday, some cleaning if that counts. Made it to the gym this morning so hopping right back into my routine. I do have an office in my house now and so far that has been fantastic.

Good news everyone.

IMNZ has officially been re scheduled for 27 March. So 4 weeks away. Obviously this is dependent on our lock down status changing back to level 1, business as usual by then, so it is far from 100% certain. But at least we have a date, it's not in 9 months, and there is still a chance.

So, I think the easiest plan is to redo the last 3 weeks of training, so 2 big weeks then back into taper.

Best I go for a run or something.

The rollercoaster continues.

Getting back into the swing of things, for my 2nd go at the last 3.5 weeks of Ironman training.

So far for the week:

M: Off
T: 60 min zwift (cruise intervals)
W: 90 min zwift
Th: 45min run before work

Another zwift tonight, 45min run tomorrow before long run and long ride with brick run over the weekend. Unfortunately no swimming as the pools are closed again.., hopefully open next week.

Also got my lowest weigh in since mid 2018 this morning. So this extension is a gift, drop a few more kgs, bang out 2 more big weekends has to help the preparation.

How did everyone do for February?

For what was supposed to be the final build up to IMNZ I managed:

Swim: x4, 6,800, 2hr 40
Bike: x17, 621km, 25hr 10
Run: x 13, 92km, 11hr 15

Just a tick over 40 hours total. Which is 4 out of the last 5 months over 40 hours. Compared with 3 months over 40 hours in my life before now. (only 1 of which was in the lead up to Ironman 2017) So, happy with my consistency over what will be the 6 months before I get to race.

Andrew, that is very good news! I'm sure it's a bit stressful not knowing, but at least they rescheduled it quickly so you knew how to plan your training. And awesome job in February, and over the last few months! That sounds incredible and you are going to crush this IM!

I am not good at tracking workouts, and also I've only really been running on occasion. Mostly I've been going to my gym for the strength/conditioning workouts, which overall I've been very consistent with. The classes have been smaller lately, and I wonder if it's new years resolutioners losing motivation.

The weather definitely looks to be taking a potentially semi-permanent turn for the better. Gonna get out for a run today, and need to get a training plan in place for this Ragnar I'm doing in August.

Had an awesome run yesterday! Longest I've done in a long time (just under 5 miles) and it was ~8:30 pace. I think the strength and conditioning classes I'm doing are really giving me a strong base. Excited to get out there more!

Nice run Nicole. My brick run on the weekend was also 8:30 pace... but per km, not per mile. Sad face.

Big weekend for me, 5 hours on the bike (split between 2 hours on zwift before sunrise and 3 hours outside) with 25 minutes run off the bike Saturday. And long run 2 1/4 ish hours Sunday.

Totals for the week, in what should have been race week.

S: Zero, pools closed due to covid
B: x4, 202km, 8hr 20min
R: x4, 29.5km 4hr

total of 12 hours 20 min.

Looking forward to another big week, before round 2 of taper. Should be similar bike numbers, 1 less run but adding some swimming back.

Nice work, Andrew.  Sounds like you've pivoted nicely on the changes to schedule (again!).  

I've been in Central Florida for a little over a week now, weather has been all over the place but that's March.  I got in a quick bike ride outdoors on Friday and plan some longer ones this weekend.  SO glad I brought my bike down.

Still no word on my A race in May, though bike races are usually really late to open anyway.  I've been trying to find something local here but I'm sure not in race shape by any means.

Half way through the week for me

Monday rest. Tuesday 40min run, 30 min zwift, 20min swim. Wednesday 60 min zwift. Thursday 2hr 25min run.

Mixed things up a bit this week, doing my long run before work this morning. Partly to separate the long run and bike, and partly due to family commitments on the weekend. It was strongly suggested that a long workout this Saturday, rather than going to my sister in-laws baby gender reveal party, would be a bad idea. If Covid hadn't happened and we hadn't ended up a bit short staffed at work long runs mid week were how I had planned to structure my week After doing it once, although getting up at 4:30 blows, I do think it is a better way to schedule things.

Oh well, such is life.

90 min ziwft, 60 min swim over the next 2 days before my last long workout (5:30 bike + 30min brick run) on Sunday. And back into taper.

Hope everyone is having a productive week.

"Strongly suggested" LOL.  Happy wife, happy life.  

Having a good overall week here, swim Monday, Zwift race on Tuesday, bike/run "brick" yesterday, and another swim today.  Still keeping with strength and core work.  My Zwift race was my first attempt at B and I got smoked and my crit wound up being a TT.  Headed out for a long ride outdoors on Saturday.

The weather has been beautiful the past few days and I'm trying to enjoy it as much as possible while also having to work. I actually took tomorrow off so will spend as much of it outside as possible (although I may be a bit overhung due to my axe league playoffs tonight).

I've gone to my gym for strength and conditioning a few times (Saturday, Tuesday, today) since I last posted. All weekend was lots of manual labor too. Monday started the basement demo (tearing out all concrete, some dirt, waterproofing it, moving a sump pump, and eventually laying a nice level concrete floor) so my basement had to be completely empty for them to start the work (I am not as handy as Gretchen to do it myself). I could barely move by Sunday evening, so took Monday off from working out. Went on a run yesterday (3.5 miles).

I struggled a bit towards the end of the week.

Friday night life got in the way a bit and I had a very late start so only 30 min on zwift. Rather than the 90 I had penciled in.
Saturdays long swim, I got through the hour, but it was not pretty.
And Sunday, well the trainer part of my long ride was tough, and it took until the last 60-90 minutes of the almost 5 hours total riding before things felt good... I suppose that means I've got some sort of endurance that the last hour feels better than the first? The high point was my brick run, easily the most comfortable I've felt on a brick building up for this Ironman.

Totals for the week
S: x2, 3,500m, 1hr 23min
B: x4, 172km, 6hr 50min
R: x3, 27km, 3hr 40min

Total of just under 12 hours for the week. A bit less than the 13+ hours planned, mainly because my 3 midweek zwift rides were all short, 90min in total. Life and fatuige kept getting in the way.

And that's the last big week, 11 sleeps to Ironman and I'm back into round 2 of taper. And this time I am very ready for it. Man I've got some fatuige in my legs.

Still enjoying the super warm weather here in central Florida.  Almost 90 out the last couple of days but hitting the trainer as with work I don't have the hour or so round-trip available to get to the trails, and no way in hell I'm riding in traffic around here.  I got in my longest swim in a couple of years on Monday, I think, 2100 SCM including a PR in the 100 off the wall @ 1:33.  I hoping for a sub-1:30 so something to shoot for.

I considered signing up for a race this weekend down here (Oly aquabike) but not really in race shape right now.

Strength and conditioning workouts have been feeling better and better. I went on Saturday and again this morning. Sunday I went on a trail run with some people who are also doing the Ragnar (about 6.5 miles, 1100 ft. of elevation). It was "slow" but understandably with that much elevation. It's also a no-drop group and one guy was struggling a bit so we stopped semi-regularly to catch our breath and wait for him. Moral of the story...lots more trail runs and elevation are needed for all of us! Got in another run yesterday as well, just under 3 miles.

Well at this stage, it either is or isn't. But yes, I'm feeling good about the amount of training I've done.

Looking back to my previous Ironman this time round I've done:

4 months totaling over 40 hours SBR vs 1 month for Ironman 2017
11 weeks over 10 hours SBR vs 3 for Ironman 2017
8 rides longer than 100km vs 3 for Ironman 2017
As far as base goes, 2020 I had approx. 300 hours SBR, 2016 210.

I've lost about 20lbs, which is good but not as much as I'd hoped. So I will be toeing the start line around 10lbs up on last time. Which wont help. But overall I'm happy I'm in a much stronger position than last time around. And last time around, despite being a close run thing I did finish. So that gives me some confidence.

I will spend the next 8 days 2nd guessing and doubting myself however.

How's everybody doing? It's too quiet around this place.

For me, taper week round 2 is done.

6 and a bit hours total consisting of:
Swim, x1, 2500m 1hr
Bike, x5, 78km, 3hr 15 min
Run, x3, 15.5km, 2hr

I don't want to say it out loud, but the long range forecast is looking pretty good. A bit cool (around 50F minimum) and maybe a little fog around early and again late in the evening. But not looking likely to rain, and most importantly looks like its going to be light winds. (IMNZ has a reputation of strong head winds for the return leg of the bike)

Heading down to Taupo the day after tomorrow, looking forward to having a swim in the lake and test out my new wetsuit. Trying to relax, and get lots of sleep, but am a bundle of nerves. With covid always lurking in the shadows, until that cannon goes Saturday morning nothing is 100%...

4 sleeps till race day.

I have done some gym classes, and went on a nice long trail run (a little more than 9 miles) on Sunday.

Work is getting the best of me these days. I am way behind and feeling overwhelmed. But the weather is getting better so that will help!

I've had a really good month so far with about a week to go - only one day off so far.  We're migrating back north after some nice weather in Florida.  I got two 35-mile-ish rides in the Winter Garden / Clermont area - it's a lot hillier than you would think.  I should break 300 miles and 12K yards for the month, plus lots of strength training and proably 40 miles of walking, too.

My A race in May has been postponed...no further information available.  Ugh.  Guess I'll continue racing the cheaters indoors on Zwift LOL.
