Subject: Regurgitating mitral valve

I was diagnosed with this condition a few years ago. I have an irregular heartbeat which sometimes palpitates, but it's really no issue.

With the training, I've noticed that I am getting out of breath a lot during the day, which I wasn't expecting to happen, and also feeling weak every so often. I would have expected myself NOT to get breathless given that I'm getting fitter.

I've been on the net doing some research, and it seems that this RMV problem has these things as symptoms, and I'm unsure of whether or not I should be worrying about it or not. Is there any danger to training? I've never had anyone tell me that I shouldn't be training. What would you do?

Any advice greatly appreciated.

Thanks, Jac

I think it is time to have your heart rechecked to make sure RMV is not getting worse.  Echocardiogram would tell you how your valves are working.  It is good to exercise but at some point you may need to have that valve replaced.  I would definitely check this out!!!

I agree that having it checked again is a good idea.

The chances of every needing a mitral valve replacement are pretty low though.

I was diagnosed with mitral valve prolapse. Is that the same thing? My Dr. knows I'm very active adn said it shouldn't be an issue at all.  There are times when I get a strange/hard to breath sensation (that's what made him do the echocardiogram to begin with) but that's it and he's not so sure that's related.

Guess that's not much help but since I have it too I thought I'd jump in.
