Run
Comments: I really need to force myself to go to bed at a decent hour before these races, as I was tired and sleepy when I got to the race and I could feel it during the whole run. It was extremely humid this morning with no breeze (until after the race finished, of course :p) and I felt like I was going to overheat at points. I focused more on form this time than I've done in previous races. The good part is that I'm getting passed less and less in the races as I'm doing a better job of 'picking my spot' and maintaining a sustainable pace, which does the psycho part of my head a world of good. What would you do differently?: Drink more water during. Sleep more before. And... the effects of hardly running during July and August - I've definitely lost running fitness compared to where I was earlier this Spring and before the Heatwave. The only way to fix that - run more. The thing that bugs me is if I cut back to a 10:00 pace, I can run all day without getting tired... which seems to suggest that I should expect to do better in races that have a greater than 10K distance. Post race
Warm down: Just loafed around drinking Gatorade and trying to stop sweating. My shirt was totally sopped, it looked like I'd jumped into a bathtub with it on. One of my bosses was at the race with wife and 2 children and I ran the "Fun Run" mile with them. Their 4 year old boy got 2nd place and their 6 year old daughter got 1st place... that was fun :) What limited your ability to perform faster: Lack of run training for 2 months. I think I may have overtrained this tri season without adequate rest at points, I feel like I'm in WORSE shape than I was on June 3rd. (Shrug). Event comments: I stayed for the awards this time and just hung out. Maybe I can do better at next week's Wellsfest 5K, but right now, I'm just going to treat these things as learning experiences/training runs. I really think that 15K on up are going to prove my distance from a running perspective. Last updated: 2006-09-09 12:00 AM

Broadmoor Baptist Church

Sunny
Overall Rank = 62/140
Age Group = 40-44
Age Group Rank = 10/17
Crawled out of bed, showered, cursed myself for staying up too late watching SG-1. Oh well. Put on my new Hawkeye shirt that says:
Front: "Better Pack Your Lunch. Its Going To Be A Long Day - Hawkeye Football"
Back: "Its Not That We're Mean, We're Just Better Than You"
This shirt proved to be quite the conversation piece before and after the race.
Walked around, drank Gatorade, ate a couple of cookies. This particular race was a benefit for Habitat for Humanity sponsored by the second largest Giant Church of the Angry Baptist God ;) in metro Jackson... I think Broodmoor has something like 6,000 members or something like that. Anyway, put Liquid Tension Experiment 2 on, and got in the scrum to take off. The start chute was very narrow today.
My shirt got commented on by a couple of ponytails :) and I wasn't even trying to flirt LOL - Guess I'll have to wear it next week... :D
