Sunny
Total Time = 1h 21m 3s
Overall Rank = 101/165
Age Group = M60-84
Age Group Rank = 5/5
Pre-race routine:

Standard. Up an hour before leaving, ate a bagel and drank a DDP. Bathroom. Pump up the bike tires and load the bike in the car. Out the door.
Event warmup:

Nothing but a light jog to swim start...barefoot.
Swim
  • 07m 7s
  • 275 yards
  • 02m 35s / 100 yards
Comments:

Followed my swim plan. Got held up last couple of lanes as I began to catch up on slowing swimmers. Got a little crowded at the lane ends and the exit ladder.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing, good pool swim for me.
Transition 1
  • 03m 53s
Comments:

Most of this time was the quarter-mile jog (and I jogged, barefoot) from pool exit, around transition, and all the way to my bike at the opposite end. Crazy! What's interesting is, as long as this was, I was 60th overall in T1 time.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing. Pretty efficient.
Bike
  • 34m 20s
  • 10.25 miles
  • 17.91 mile/hr
Comments:

Good bike for me. Started out at a good spin rate, not too hard, did 2-3 30/30s to warm up. At about 8 minutes in, I went pretty hard for 5 minutes, backed off for a couple, then repeated that until I was about 5 minutes from finish.
What would you do differently?:

Not much; maybe push out of the turns a little harder.
Transition 2
  • 01m 44s
Comments:

Decent transition. Expected faster, though, given my rack spot was just inside from the Bike In. Got shoes on pretty well, little trouble. Put on hat and race belt as I jogged out.
What would you do differently?:

Not much.
Run
  • 34m 1s
  • 3.1 miles
  • 10m 58s  min/mile
Comments:

My fervent hope was that I could get this thing done in 33 minutes, prove to myself that I can make some running improvement. if the course had been measured properly (my Garmin shows I ran 3.25 miles) my results would reflect that, actually likely a few seconds better. Ah well...happened at Playtri event in March too.
What would you do differently?:

Followed my plan pretty much to the letter but I think it's possible I went out too fast, finishing first mile in just over 10 minutes. Subsequent miles were 10:27 and 11:13. I was shocked to see how much slower the third mile was because it didn't feel that way when I was out there. So next time, try to smooth out these differences a bit...which might still end up in a similar time.
Post race
Warm down:

Downed a bottle of water very quickly, made my way back to my spot and packed up. That's it. By the time bag was packed I felt pretty decent.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Everything was essentially as expected. If I could just improve some on the run I'd feel so much better. But dang it, that doesn't seem to be happening!

Event comments:

Good little run face in a good location. Likely do it again.
