Queen's funeral.  Wow what a spectacle - so much history (not all of it good vis-a-vis the monarchy, but regardless the woman is one of the most important leaders in modern history).

Although where I come from, we cut the monarchs' heads off 200 years ago, I lived in England long enough to understand the void that her passing leaves.

I am not watching the funeral though...

Mrs Bullfrog wanted to watch, so I saw a lot more of the funeral than I planned. Nobody does pomp and ceremony like the British.

For us in NZ, the Queen is/was our head of state, her face is on our money etc. She's been our head of state for over a 1/3 of our existence as a country. So even tho nothing really changes in our daily lives it is kind of a big deal, once in a lifetime event.

Although I am no monarchist by any stretch of the imagination, personally I think a hereditary King from a country on the other side of the world as our head of state is silly. But when I look at the clowns from both sides of the political spectrum in our government, I don't see a strong case to elect a president.

10-20 years of King Charlie, followed by King William will do.

I'll go for a zwift ride around Westminster and Buckingham palace in Liz's honor tonight.

Never too early to plan.

I have a sprint tri in Florida in March then either a sprint or Oly in June here in Maryland.  Training plan starts mid-December.  I'll try to sprinkle a couple of short run races in there as well.  I deferred a tri in July this year so I'll have that, too, but I think they'll let me move it so maybe I'll do something different or use that credit for the June race.

Nothing wrong with planning. I have races penciled in through to March 2024!

I do have other races/goals on the way tho, your next race is about 6 months away? That is a long time between drinks. I think having something at least every 2-3 months is the sweet spot.

Nothing until end of March

Hoping to do as many races as this season (11), or more.

Our tri season is only end of April to mid-October around here because the water temps get pretty chilly in the winter and spring.  Our climate is technically "temperate" which means cold and rainy in the winter and "almost Florida" in the summer anymore.  We've tended to have chilly springs the past few years, too.  The one I'm doing in March in Florida is exactly in the middle of my training plan and it's a shorter sprint so it's a perfect test.  I'll definitely do a couple of run races to keep  the edge as well.

I don't think I have Nathalie's race schedule in me (and sprints are upwards of $100 USD around here).

Hi everyone!
Whewwww lots to catch up on!

Andrew, sounds like you definitely picked the wrong thing to emulate in Gretchen Hope you're all better!

Mike, don't go too crazy. At least you're just a few days out.

Nathalie, I hear you on the quitting drinking. It's amazing how much a night out can effect me these days.

Gretchen, glad to hear we might still get some updates while you're in Egypt, though I totally understand being so busy. I'm sure you try to fit a lot into those 6 months, and to train on top of it, you will likely be exhausted.

DQ, I'm with the others, where are you?!

So I didn't have an actual tournament this weekend. It was really just a group of my friends from volleyball deciding to go on a trip together. We were originally going this weekend b/c the AVP (pro vball league) was supposed to be in town, but they cancelled and we decided to go still.

Overall had a really fun weekend! A few of us went up Thursday (my friend gambles a lot so gets really great rates and we were able to stay from Thur-Mon). Worked from the hotel Friday (had a gorgeous water view), and although I had 2 people resign, I didn't get too stressed b/c I knew I had a weekend of fun ahead. Finished working and went out to do some 400 repeats (8 of them, ouchie), then we went to dinner and then out dancing. There was a cover band playing at Ocean Casino that was awesome. They played until 2:45am, we danced all night and drank quite a bit.

Woke up Saturday, went to the beach, played some vball, some spikeball, relaxed all day. Went back, showered and went to dinner at 10pm (my normal bedtime, haha). There was a DJ so we got up and danced between our apps and dinner. Had 4 drinks the whole day. Finished dinner and we were all wiped so we just went to bed.

Sunday we woke up and made it back to the beach. Played some spikeball, relaxed, no drinking. Eventually headed back b/c we decided to leave that night.

Woke up Monday feeling sick I'm testing negative for COVID but am really run down. Feeling better though so going to try to cycle today and see how I feel.

Overall the weekend was perfect though. I ate pretty well and weighed in Monday at the same place I did on Thursday, so I take that as a win!

Ouch! that's expensive! The races I do (mostly small local ones) are about half that price or less. The only $100 race was the one by Ironman. It was also the most fun so worth it, but I wouldn't pay that every time

Sounds like a weekend when I was 23...no wonder you're beat down.  Probably will be OK after a couple of night's sleep.

Quick morning run with 7x1' of Z5 (or "fast" running). It felt pretty good--no lingering knee pain or weirdness, which is good.

I'm not sure I can get used to these short workouts (36' total). I still get up at 5am and do the workout, then get ready and head to work. Then I wonder why the door is still locked and no one is around. It takes a minute to realize it is 6:30am and no one will be around for a while (yay! lots of productive time!).

Yup, I'm all recovered from dodgy prawn dinner. Fun times.

Nicole Sounds like a fun weekend. And to echo the others, these days, that would damn near kill me.

It seems like just a year or 2 ago I was working on the boats, out partying till 2-4am several nights a week and back at work ready to take the punters out for a sail the next morning. It was actually more like 15 years ago. Now, 1 night out with a few drinkies and I'm feeling it for days.

I agree with Mike, that much going on in 1 weekend is why you're feeling run down. A few days recovering I'm sure you'll be back at 100% soon.

Mike US$100 for an Olympic is nuts. For perspective the 5 race HM series I do during summer is about US$140 for a series pass, and the local tri series races are about US$45 for a sprint or $55 for the Olympic.

Gretchen Nice interval run. It's fun to run fast, its like being a kid again. Getting used to short workouts is one of the problems with coming down from the Ironman high isn't it, you've suddenly got all this spare time you used to be training in. Although with a full distance and the worlds in the next 12 months I'm sure these 'short' workouts aren't going to last long.

Me Started the week with a zwift ride Monday evening, a short run Tuesday morning and short zwift ride Tuesday evening. A bit sleepy this morning so missed my run, but will be doing an hour on the bike this evening.

All little drops in the bucket as Mike says.

I had a nice swim with the Master's team this morning...2825, just because who doesn't like to swim to the other side of the pool and get out?

This afternoon I have to drive to Arkansas to deliver a bench I built for a dear friend of mine. When I said I'd build it I didn't realize it is 7.5 hours to her house from mine! Oh well, it is going to be a fly by trip there today, back to my parents' house tomorrow (I'm taking my mom with me) and then home myself on Saturday after spending Friday with my folks and having coffee with an old friend Saturday morning. A super busy few days, but fun...I hope...as long as traffic isn't too terrible.

Yeah, I didn't think I could do it either! I can stay up as long as I'm stimulated, so having an awesome band and dancing made the time fly. Suddenly it was 3am! Definitely paid for it. I'm feeling much better today!

Today is 2 weeks since my last race so I was supposed to start training again today.

Intervals with the running club was on the menu but I had forgotten that I was giving blood today so I need another week before I can workout with pulse. And they're doing hills tonight anyway What's this obsession the coach has with hills? It's hard enough on flat ground of you ask me.

Golf tomorrow, off on Friday (for no reason, because I can) and we'll start the winter program on Saturday with an easy 10k.

Looking forward to the weekend: other than the start of my winter training, we're going to a hockey game on Saturday and a to concert on Sunday (Swedish band). 2 of my favourite things in one weekend

@Gretchen - you're a good friend to drive all that way.  Good grief the middle of the country is big!  7 1/2 hours gets me almost to Georgia.

Went down to the River this morning for a dress rehearsal...tri suit and wet suit included.  Such a beautiful morning:

"Transition":

I had to deal with locking and unlocking the bike which probably added over a minute total.  Total in transition was about 5 minutes with about a 150 yard uphill run from the water to the car.  I can clean up a few seconds for sure on Saturday.

A couple more shots of the water:

I once ran a track meet the day after giving blood in high school.  That did not go well.  LOL

I'd be disappointed if you don't :). we can't have a 5 minutes transition for an Oly (I would approve for an IM)
