I rested a bit Monday and Tuesday, mostly just worked, but Tuesday afternoon decided to do a 30 minute ride and see how I felt. I felt great!

Yesterday, did another 30 minute PZ ride, followed by a "magic mile" run that my Garmin program has me do every now and then. I ran it in 6:37, so about 20 seconds faster than 2 weeks ago!

I went to bed late b/c of my axe league and then got woken up to a car alarm going off around 3 or 4 in the morning, so felt exhausted when I woke up. Ended up sleeping a little more rather than working out. I need to get back into my sleep routine!

@Nicole - 6:37???  That's quick.  Gives you a vDOT of 44 at least, and I'm assuming you didn't quite give every drop of sweat and tears on it, either.  Note:  you might want to get on the outdoor bike at some point.  And in the river.  Or maybe just the hell with it, it's just a sprint, right?

Huge weather change on tap for us here...it's been in the mid-80s for a couple of weeks now and the low temp Saturday morning is going to be in the 40s at my race site.  I don't have tri racing gear for that temperature (other than my wetsuit).  That's gonna be a cold bike ride!

Donating blood is a great thing to do! But definitely takes a hit on your body.

And yes, races here are super expensive. That's why I don't do many. I love competing, but hate spending money on it. And as races get closer, the price goes up, so you have to commit early or you end up paying even more.

Hey to my favorite person from Baltamore - nice work getting some work in while getting some rest. Any reason for the downtime? I hope you are not injured. But clearly the downtime paid off with a faster magic mile. 20 seconds is a great improvement to a mile time. Nice work.

Yes! I was pushing pretty hard, but probably could have pushed a little harder. I was happy when my watch went off though, woof.

My friend and I are planning on doing a little trial tri this weekend. We're going to go to Hammerman and get in a swim and bike for sure, and maybe a run too.

That does sound chilly! Hopefully with you moving it will keep you nice and warm.

Hi everone - I'm sorry for signing on and then ghosting you all. Things in my life are crazy. This sleep apnea is killing me - literally. I feel absolutely terrible over the weekend and I worked really hard to catch up on Sun, Mon and Tuesday. I felt good on Tuesday to go for a ride - I've been getting in one ride a week, so I'm stoked because getting one in on Tuesday means IU should be able to get in one more. I have a late start at target (where I am working while I figure out my next step - although it is looking like I might be going back to get another MA so I can become a middle school therapist) so I'm hoping to get in a ride just as soon as this big thunder cell moves out of the way. I won't miss the rain - we are supposed to get 2-3 inches today, so I'm just gonna remember rule number 9 Velomenati, 'Rule #9: If you are out riding in bad weather, it means you are a badass. Period." So, I'll get out there - it's just gonna suyck but I need to start embracing the suck if I'm going to turn myself back into the badass I used to bed and the one I'm gonna need to be that gonna lost 83 pounds by my wedding on April 28, 2023. It can be done - but I'm gonna need y'all help. That's why I'm here.

So - I'll try to check in later to update about the ride that I WILL DO. Here is how I'm doing on my goals at the midweek:

4 out of 6 earns me Guardians playoff shirt (and I want one badly)

Work with accountability partners to iron out procedures to get me going = on pace to achieve
Record food on lose it for 10 meals = 7 already in the books
Complete PT exercises 1x = Hoping to do this one tomorrow or on the weekend
Ride bike (his name Billy Baroo) 1x = Done and today we are gonna add some frosting
Swim 1x (hopefully on Wed) = Gonna happen on Friday. I just bought a month swim pass at a new high school pool to help me get into the water during the weekdays. Already got my goggles on the front seat
Lose 2 LBS to 257 = check. Weighed today and I'm at 253. Boom!

Back to work Thanks so much for the accountability. I'm hoping to also get my bio done for those of you who are new or who have forgotten about the crazy fat Clevelander.

DQ! Not injured, just was a little under the weather earlier this week.

Also, great job on your goals, and dropping 6 pounds! Really solid start! It's amazing what small changes can do!

Yes, great start Dave.  Congrats!  Keep coming back here for motivation.  We're winding down here in the northern hemisphere with just a couple of races left on the team calendar, but Andrew is just getting ramped up.  Hopefully you'll be able to get some walking in if your feet improve - there's almost nothing that beats that for low-impact weight management and you won't have to resort to rule #9 too often. 

And hey, I live in Baltimore, too!!!!

STORY: so let’s start back in elementary school where I was picked deadline each time we made squads in PE class. That’s right, from grade kindergarten through grade 6 I was the last person chosen every quarter we made new squads because I was the opposite of an athlete. I had no real natural skills but I did like running on my own and I actually did my first 10 K when I was nine. Sure I finish last, but how many of those kids in my PE class ran a 10 K that year. Not many. I ran off and on through my 20s and 30s but I was always getting injured because I would push myself too hard and I would get an overuse injury like iliotibial band syndrome or plantar fasciitis. well one day my massage therapist who kept Humpty Dumpty working finally said, “ you know you wouldn’t be so injured if you were to take up a sport like triathlon were you didn’t pound your body as much.

FAMILY STATUS: Married for 20+ years to a former triathlete, 19 YO daughter in college who was a competitive swimmer and faster than me in the pool by the time she was 11.

CURRENT TRAINING: I'm in base training for 2022 right now, with a full schedule of sprint triathlons and bike races through the summer.

THIS YEAR'S RACES: No racing in 2021...I deferred a couple for some unexpected family commitments. I race fairly often on Zwift and am a solid MOP "C" racer.

UPCOMING YEAR'S RACES: 3-4 sprint triathlons, and Olympic aqaubike, two 40K time trials and a few criteriums depending on schedule, plus I'll continue to race on Zwift (I love the criterium races there).

WEIGHTLOSS: Currently weigh around 205, racing weight is 195 - it's easy for me to drop to 200, the last five are brutal and take real commitment to nutrition which I'm terrible at.

WHAT WILL MAKE ME A GOOD MENTOR: I've been a mentor or mentee for over a decade, and with this groups I think about six years. We're a great group welcoming of all newcomers and we all mentor each other. We have members in several countries which makes for some great perspectives.

Mike Good luck on your glorious return to triathlon racing this weekend. I'm sure you're going to smash it out of the park.

Me 3 zwift rides and 2 runs so far this week. One more zwift ride, probably tonight. And a long run over the weekend. Maybe another short easy one, but we will see. Still not enough before work runs, but making progress, on track for a good week.

Wrapped up taper this morning with a run-through of all three sports, plus some stretching and yoga.  All felt good.  I know I'm in taper because my back is bothering me a little LOL.  Headed down to the hotel (about two hours), then some pizza for dinner and hoping to get to bed early.

Weather is nuts.  Water temp was 81 degrees yesterday, air temp to be 48 tomorrow morning.  I know the lake is going to drop a little so wetsuits will be OK but I'm gonna fuh-reeze on the bike.  Bike harder and observe rule #9 I guess?

Thanks for the well wishes, everyone - had a great race coming in exact as planned (3 hours flat).  I'll do a write up tomorrow but very pleased with my effort.  Oh, and it wasn't wetsuit legal, so we had 81 degree water and 48 degree air temps at the start.
