Andrew, glad to hear you met your target and absolutely annihilated your last HM! You pushed through some tough stuff and it's great that you have plans for continued improvement! And great pic!
Also, how are you liking Tailwind?!

To be honest I've not been using a huge amount of tailwind recently. After my 70.3 in December I decided I didn't enjoy carrying so much fluid for the run. Nothing against the product, just logistically didn't want to carry it. So going forward I'm using tailwind (1 super concentrated bottle) on the bike, and gels on the run. Easier to carry, and/or live off the course. So for this just gone half marathon it was 4 x Maurten 100 gels.

A bottle of tailwind pre run is a nice easy way to get some carbs/hydration into you though.

Definitely! I mostly used it for pre-race, though also had some on the bike for my tris, but they are very short so don't need nearly as much nutrition.

That’s simply brilliant!

I love every bit of this! You probably felt good about it too, b/c even if it wasn't for you, it feels good to DO something. Well done!

Andrew great job on your fitness test!

Mike, our BDAS battle might need to wait until next year sounds like you are continuing to crush your training though!

I've not done much this past week. I was hoping some rest would help, but I'm still having a good amount of pain and discomfort. I tried playing football Saturday, but we were up by a good amount so I didn't want to push it too much. Anxious for my ortho appt on Thursday to know what the plan is. Then I'll know whether I should try for the Seneca 7 at the end of the month or not, though currently leaning towards probably not since I'm not training at all and was already behind...

I also found out today that I should be done with my invisalign by July 1! I was really hoping to be done before I turned 40, so on this timetable I should be!

Rest and Recovery week done and dusted. I feel like such a sloth, less than 3 hours total. I did manage some quality on Sunday though.

I headed in to my usual spot and ran a 5km individual time trial as a fitness test. Long story short, I ran 29:13 for the 5k, this is an improvement of 1:58 from my last fitness test in January, and my first 5k under 30 minutes in over 10 years. And of course I get to reset my pace zones which are all getting around 25 sec/km faster.

Hope everyone else had a good weekend.

That's a great result, especially doing this on your own! almost 2 minutes better in 4 months, WOW!

And also 1st under 30 minutes in over 10 years, WOW again! What's your personal record on that distance? I bet that's gonna fall soon (unless it was set in your twenties and was under 20 minutes)

Repeating last week's schedule with just a tad more volume.  I have one more week of Phase 3 in running then I'll drop my long run and do some 5K races to get me in racing form.  Seven weeks to go.

still hammering it I see, solid week once again

So another half arsed week for me, I did do something most days but with no enthusiasm or energy.

No long run as my running mate was unavailable this week. I started out on my own but ended up walking most of time (8k)

Run intervals went well but the spin class didn't. Took my bike to the shop for a service and was supposed to run back to work (4k) but ended up walking most of it

What else, a 70 minutes Zwift workout called high intensity recovery, which I kind of did correctly

Hockey season is already over (lost 4 games to 0 in the semis) but Golf season has started (9 holes on Saturday)

Floorball on Sunday

This week has started a little better as I did manage to run the 4k to the bike shop to pick up my buddy.

2 weeks to my first starting line of the season a half marathon on May 1st. Totally not ready

Have a good week BT!

Meanwhile my hockey team has squandered a playoff berth over the past three weeks.  And while I didn't play golf, I did watch a ton of it over the weekend (The Masters).  Your countryman (Ludvig Abert - sorry about the lack of an accent on the A ) did quite well.

Sorry to hear that, maybe next year!

Yes, that young Swede’s rocket rise to the top is quite impressive, turned pro in June 23, got picked for the Ryder cup same year and 2nd at the Masters the following year!

My 'official' 5k PB is from my 20's, 24:54, so still quite a way off. And, that was set in a sprint Tri, so stand alone 5k would have been a little faster in theory. But I think that course was likely a little short. So who knows what it actually is. Definitely in the 25 minute ballpark. I'll get back there, probably not this year though.

I think you're definitely going to be in the ballpark with another year of running like you are.

Thanks Mike. Hopefully you're right.

I've been pleasantly surprised how much I have been enjoying this run focus so far this year. So injury dependant (knock on wood) No plans to scale back. May the gains continue.

@Mike, nice work on 4 runs for the week. Think this must be the first week you've run more than me this year

@Nat, Doing something most days is not 'half arsed' that's in like the top 10% of the general population. Hopefully you're happier with next weeks efforts, but don't sell yourself short.

Sorry Hockey is over... Next year's our year!

@Nicole, If you're in pain, to the extent you're not training now, and your race is at the end of the month, that is not a promising timeline. Hoping that the extra rest you're having has done the trick, but be careful. Last thing you need is turning a minor thing into a major one. Disappointing that the BDAS show down is looking less likely, but better to get yourself sorted.

@Me, Started the week with a 50 minute easy run Monday morning, and a short, 30 minute zwift with some sweet spot efforts followed by a stretching session in the evening. This morning was a 50ish minute progression run. Back into normal training mode.

Have a good week BDASers

I know by most people's standards, that's a lot but I am not most people. I am not comparing myself to Gretchen but my my standards, it was a half arsed week. I am supposed to train to improve not just fart around.

Yeah, we won last year and in 2021 so next year it's our turn again

Originally posted by drfoodlove Happy weekend!! Yesterday was a good day training wise. 2900yd swim, followed pretty immediately with a 2:30 ride to get it all in before leaving for the in-laws’ house. It is a four hour drive. So…Mike, it would take you what, two days to get there? :D Four hour drive after a big training day was a bit rough—pretty stiff when we arrived. This morning was long run of 1:45. I ran the entire perimeter of this town. It was sweet—took all morning. My wife was super slow getting ready, so I didn’t even get out the door until 9:45. Then the run and back to the hotel for a shower. At there house at noon. Whew. Also! It turns out, if you offer to do little repairs around the house, you can dip in and out of family time AND you look like an absolute hero. Excellent work consolidating your number 1 daughter in law position. All those jobs, you can call a strength workout, so you did a double

Gretchen, you can come to my house anytime and I'll leave the garage open.  You won't even have to talk to us.

I suspect I might actually want to hang out with you though! I wouldn't need the distractions.

Nicole--sorry to hear you're not getting better on the schedule you'd (we'd!) like. Tough decisions to be made--just remember, being smart now pays off in the long run, being able to walk in your 80s sounds like a good thing, right? But...I know it sucks.

Andrew--great job on your 5K time trial! I'm like Mike--hard to get me motivated to do hard efforts without a race or at least some competition around.

Nat--half-arsed is better than no-arsed, but I get what you're saying about training to be better. Best advice is I've ever gotten was to not beat yourself up about it and just do better moving forward.

As for me...I survived teh weekend, but man just barely. My MIL is just such a bully. Honestly all she did all weekend was complain about the meal they had out for her birthday a few weeks ago (which, by the way, was actually a birthday celebration for her, my wife, and my wife's twin sister--not just my MIL, but she kept calling it "her" birthday celebration dinner) and yell at the grandkids for...as far as I can tell...being kids and doing what kids do.

Anywy...solid week for me last week:
4 swims totaling 8650yds
3 bikes 73.95miles
4 runs 17.46 miles
2 strength sessions

So far this week I did 2200yds in the pool yesterday, followed by 1:10 Z3 interval run yesterday in our first bordering on hot day *86F when I left the house)--reminded myself I need to take more water when it is warm! Then I spent 4.5 hours working in the yard, including cutting up two trees that fell during the last winter storm (neighbor's dead trees that fell on our fence--have waited to do anything with them to see if they were going to take care of it, but alas...that was folly) and mowing the yard, which was quite tall, given I am about a month late in getting around to mowing the yard this year. Oops!

This morning was supposed to be a brick with a 1 hr Z2 ride followed by a one hour Z1 run, but my legs are pretty jetted after yesterday, so I opted to split the brick and will do the run around lunchtime, before our next round of rain moves in.

@Gretchen:  your MIL sounds like my maternal grandmother, just complained about everything and hated everyone; people like that suck the life out of you

@Nicole:  I hope they figure out your hip issue and give you a plan: and yeah, I'm with Andrew I don't think the race is looking good but maybe they'll have a miracle fix for you; and congrats on your upcoming Invisalign graduation!!  (I have almost another year, but they don't bother me)

@Andrew:  it really does take a couple of years of solid running to get that economy back, which brings the pacing up at the same effort...I've been running again for over two years and I'm just feeling it

@Nathalie:  like others, don't worry about a couple of slug weeks while you're sick, you'll get back at it quickly

Solid start to the week this morning after a needed day off yesterday.  VO2 max intervals on the treadmill and some strength and core work.  On my final interval (which were 3.5' long, so had to deal with not even-minute numbers), I thought I had about 10 seconds left and looked at my watch and realized it was 40.  So demoralizing.

Sounds like odd number years are our year.

It's only early in the season but our warriors are doing ok, 3 wins, 2 losses and 1 draw from the first 6 games. At times we look like genuine contenders, but haven't quite got it 100% right yet. A lot of water to flow under the bridge between now and September though.

I think this about hill repeats (running or cycling). That 1' feels like forever and at the end you WANT to die (if done correctly!).

Nice, easy Z1 run yesterday afternoon (60') and then a whopping 1400yd swim this morning. Later this afternoon I have a 72' Z3 interval ride. Might take it outside, but I might also be too lazy to put the wheel on my bike and actually go outside, so we will see.

Felt a bit like a jerk this morning. Swim coach asked me what kind of practice we should have today and I said short and fast. Then I proceeded to swim the warmup and leave! :D What can I say? I am carefully managing my training load by having the discipline to only do what is on my plan, no more, no less. :D :D :D

so far so good then for our Wariors

Well, we won 3 times at 3 years interval 2015 , 2018 and 2021 and twice at 2 years interval 2021 and 2023.
So we will win 2025 to make it 3 times at 2 years interval and then 2026 and 2027, to make it 3 times in a row.
Can't argue with the maths....

(like I said to my husband before the 1st overtime of the 3rd semi final as the score was 2-2: we scored 1 goal in the 1st game, 2 goals in the 2nd game so we will score 3 goals in the 3rd. Can't argue with the maths. I was right, we did score the winning goal, unfortunately it was in the wrong net (unlucky bounce off our defender) )
