thanks, so next question: what's a threshold test?

Different testing protocols for different theories of it, but you can do a 20-minute all-out run or bike and there are formulas that give you your numbers.  There's also a ramp-test on the bike which is brutal but way shorter and you can do it in the middle of training block without impacting recovery.  For running I've always used my 10K race pace plus a few seconds per mile.  Tempo runs should be done at your threshold pace.

ummm, I must be stupid I don't get it. If you do a "all out" 20 minutes run it's not at your 10k pace is it (unless you run a 10k in 20 minutes) So if you do a threshold test, you should'nt barf at the end because running 20 minutes at your 10k pace is not especially difficult (given that you normally run a 10k in, say 50- 60 minutes (in my case))

In all cases you will be hammering the 20 minutes on the bike or running, then there is a calculation that extrapolates it to your hour time in watts for the bike, or pace for the run.

It was all out…and I do not think I could run a 10k at that pace! Not, at least, without the aforementioned barfing!

A very ugly 60’ ride today after yesterday’s test. At least there was baseball to watch!

Sick Nat reporting for duty. Not happy, long weekend, great (ish) weather and I find myself in bed feeling sorry for myself. On the plus side, I am not missing any hockey (as we won 4-0, the next game (semi final 1) is not until next Friday) or floorball (Easter weekend, many people away, we decided not to play).

Have a nice weekend!

2150yds in the pool this morning--nothing too special, just a bunch of random stuff the coach posted. I've yet to figure her out in terms of what goals she has for workouts. Our old coach was pretty consistent. MWF was longer sets, TR was shorter sprint sets, and Saturday was a grab-bag dependent on how he felt and who showed up. Quality Wednesday was always murderous.

In about an hour I'm off for a lunchtime run. Weather is beautiful. I'm at a weird point in my work project where it doesn't make much sense to start something big with just a couple of hours to work on Friday, and I have a doctor's appointment this afternoon, so I won't actually get anything done anyway. Yay for spring!
