so this fall, i decided to try something crazy. With all of my base running miles under my belt, i decided to run xc for my highschool. Im doing relatively well, my first 5k is tommorrow, and so far ive ran a PR 2 miler of 11:10. Heres the question though...I wanted to run in a marathon this year, but since doing xc, my running distance has been somewhat sacrificed for running hard intervals. Is it reasonable to be able to decently run a half marathon in early december even if xc got over in late october? alittle over one month doesnt seem like much time to get ready, right now, im doing double workouts most days, with my milage hovering around 7 on easy days, and 9-12 on hard days.

-thanks for your thoughts

If you're running "9-12 on hard days," why wouldn't you be ready to run a half marathon?

NO reason why you couldn't run a half mary. So long as it's not during the season, since your coach would probably not appreciate you burning your legs out when you have races that week.

When I ran HS XC, my coach encouraged us to do road races throughout the year. I often ran several 10K and higher races through April. It was somewhat difficult, since I wrestled, too, but it worked out pretty well.
