time out
72F / 22C
Overcast
Total Time = 1h 07m 16s
Overall Rank = 163/508
Age Group = 40-44
Age Group Rank = 0/
Pre-race routine:

restless sleep, everyday breakfast routine
Event warmup:

stretcing, light jog, light swim, meet and greet
Swim
  • 13m 6s
  • 586 yards
  • 02m 14s / 100 yards
Comments:

wanted to do better on the swim but it was choppy and against the current.Started in the middle of the wave. Felt comfortable. Stayed on course well, sighted well, Except for whacking into ELLEN now and then, (haha) slow but good. Out of the water in something like 12:48 and then a run up the beach to the mats.
no wetsuit
What would you do differently?:

Now that I feel good on just about any distance swim, I have to work on speed. Maybe a good wetsuit next year would help.
Transition 1
  • 02m 30s
Comments:

bit of a jog along alley to trnsition area, the area was right there but you had to run down to the end to get in, kind of funky.
Gotta work on clothing, dry shirt on a wet body slowed me down a bit. Time seem to slip by.
What would you do differently?:

figure out a better shirt or upper bidy covering, maybe go sleeveless or all in one suit
Bike
  • 29m 26s
  • 9 miles
  • 18.35 mile/hr
Comments:

kicked the bike, made up for a slow swim. This time includes both transitions so really the bike was about 25 minutes and 22 mph ave on my computer. 13 mph on hills, 22-24 on flats and top of 35 on downhills.Feel good about that. Passed quite a few on the bike.
What would you do differently?:

Work smoother on the hills.
Transition 2
  • 02m
Comments:

Changed ok.
What would you do differently?:

WEAR SOCKS!!!! Alway listen to your mother!! Like a dummy I tried another race with no socks, figured a short run would be ok. Worked ok on a du but definetly not on a tri. Right foot all messed up with blisters,
Run
  • 24m 43s
  • 3.1 miles
  • 07m 58s  min/mile
Comments:

Happy about time, under 8 min/mi.!!Good transition to run legs. I bit slower than I wanted to do but felt a bit tired from bike and weather air was a bit humid. I felt a bit overheated. Good to have my crew doing water stops, had to look good for them. Tried to keep good form, kicked it up a notch sequentially to the finish. Felt like a good honest effort.
What would you do differently?:

WEAR SOCKs!! Run faster, work on running
Post race
Warm down:

Keep walking, drink, put feet in ocean

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Work on swim speed and form. Work on run speed.Work on transitions, getting better just have to tweak.

Event comments:

Well organized, well marked, especially like the run distances marked.
Time out does great races, just wish they would do longer distance stuff.

Glen,
Sounds like you had a great race. I run without socks on my olympic distance races with a little foot powder in my shoes. It might help if you still want a fast T1 And T2. Nice Job!

you, my friend, had a kick a** race! You are so damn fast on the run. Yes, a wetsuit and a tri suit will shave a few more minutes off of your overall time, but I'd say you had a killer race anyhow! I'm looking forward to seeing you again in August. Have a fun time with the kids/camping.

BTW, how do you know Ellen H? It's such a small world.......

Awesome race!  You did great!  I guess the sand and no socks combo was a bad thing, huh?

ellen,

Ellen is in my church, talked to her last year about tri's, she seemed hooked as she wanted to get into something besides running
  • I was crushed when she hurt her ankle, very happy to see her give a whirl even with the injury.

  • Hey ya'll, thanks for the kudo's, yeah I gotta improve the foot thing, and the swim thing. But just livin' life and enjoying the day at the event;s and meetin' and greetin' is way cool.

Love the site and all the forums, I pick up so much just from the reports.
    take care glen
