Sunny
Total Time = 1h 24m 38s
Overall Rank = 66/197
Age Group = 35-39
Age Group Rank = 6/21
Pre-race routine:

Spent the night in the 5th wheel at the campground on site. Woke up, took the border collies out to do their business. Had a Cliff Bar...ate a little later than I wanted. Went and set up transition 1 hour prior to start time. Stretched out...slow jog up/down boat ramp.
Event warmup:

Slow jog up/down boat ramp. Swam for a few minutes prior to start.
Swim
  • 15m 11s
  • 700 meters
  • 02m 10s / 100 meters
Comments:

Good overall for first OWS. Drafted for a while, goggles fogged up which made for a tough time. Pretty pissed about that. Held back from really going at it because I wasn't sure of myself and the OWS.
What would you do differently?:

Do something to make sure goggles do not fog. Go at it much harder. I was hardly breathing - I could give it much more effort.
Transition 1
  • 03m 8s
Comments:

150 yard uphill run up the boat ramp to transition area. Was happy with transition time. 32/197
What would you do differently?:

Move faster? Not much...
Bike
  • 34m 35s
  • 10.25 miles
  • 17.78 mile/hr
Comments:

Good ride overall. I felt very comfortable on the bike.
What would you do differently?:

Go harder, drink a little more. Push it up the hills a little harder.
Transition 2
  • 01m 32s
Comments:

Took a few seconds longer than wanted to get on running shoes. Other than that I was happy with T2. 75/197
What would you do differently?:

Calm down and get running shoes on...
Run
  • 30m 14s
  • 3.4 miles
  • 08m 53s  min/mile
Comments:

Much improved over 1st TRI in June. Improved over 1 minute per mile. Very happy...know that I still have a lot of room to improve.
What would you do differently?:

Maybe go a little harder at it like the swim and bike.
Post race
Warm down:

Chilled out, went out to cheer Wendy and other competitors coming in. Ate a couple bananas, muffin, gatorade...

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Mental...I think I can give it a little more in all 3 sports.

Event comments:

Great race, location, etc. Had a great time and was very happy with my time.

Sounds like you had a good race. Nothing wrong with taking it easy and figuring out what you can do. Better to be conservative on the first few races. Use these races as learning experiences for later in your tri career.

Nice job!

Thanks Tom!  I am really hooked on this.  I was actually reading your race reports today - not sure how I got there...but read up on your IMAZ.   Very impressive....

Thanks again...

Jim
