Total Time = 1h 37m 26s
Overall Rank = 33/114
Age Group = 30-34
Age Group Rank = 2/21
Event warmup:

5 minutes jog, brief bike. In water 10 minutes before race start, easy warmup
Swim
  • 16m 9s
  • 750 meters
  • 02m 08s / 100 meters
Comments:

First 200 yards strong, then got caught up in traffic, kicked, and had tough time with breathing. Middle 400 yds tough swim, bad form. Last 200 yards were strong, made up some ground. Had slight calf cramp in left leg as was climbing out of the water. Rough swim, but time was ok.
What would you do differently?:

Need to figure out this breathing issue in traffic during swim. Should practice more open water swims, and need to do more races to get more comfortanble with this
Transition 1
  • 04m 59s
Comments:

Long transition run (~250 m) from swim to T1 area added to transition time. Good getting suit on - had to sit down to put bike shoes on due to cramping in calf. Glasses fogged up as soon as I put them on. No problem getting bike shoes clipped into pedals.
Bike
  • 50m 52s
  • 16 miles
  • 18.87 mile/hr
Comments:

OK bike ride, though below goal pace (20 mph). Had trouble on a couple of hills, had to stand out of saddle. Cramped in both calves around mile 12.
What would you do differently?:

Need stronger start, was pretty slow the first 3 miles. Need to figure out cramping issue.
Transition 2
  • 01m 16s
Comments:

Good transition, though T2 area was pretty crowded. In and out quickly.
What would you do differently?:

Helmet off as racking bike
Run
  • 24m 12s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 07m 47s  min/mile
Comments:

Calves cramping at beginning - ran with very short strides for first mile, led to slow start. After that they worked out, lengthened stride, picked u ppace. Good staying cool - dumped water on head. Found someone to pace off for 1.5 miles in middle, could not stay with over last 3/4 miles - lower quads on both legs cramped up (new problem). Maintained pace over last 3/4 mile, but could not finish strong
What would you do differently?:

Find pacesetter early. Know where the turnaround will be! Need to figure out cramping issue.
Post race
Warm down:

Walking. Did not eat enough.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Cramping. Beathing issues in water again

Good race. I've heard from some people that bannana's can help with cramping, but if I eat bannana's before or during a race, they give me the dry heaves. Something to think about the week leading up to a race. Also, I'm not sure how much you drank but sometimes being dehydrated can lead to cramps. Good job again!
