Minneapolis, Minnesota
United States
75F / 24C
Sunny
Total Time = 3h 53m 2s
Overall Rank = 1918/8215
Age Group = 40-44
Age Group Rank = 272/834
Pre-race routine:

Liquid b'fast @5am.

Linda dropped me at the Kelly Inn and took the bus ride to the Dome. Met a nice guy ready to do his 8th consecutive. Met a charter member while hanging at the dome as well as my high school english teach.
Event warmup:

None - as usual.
Run
  • 3h 53m 2s
  • 26.2 miles
  • 08m 53s  min/mile
Comments:

Followed the 3:40 pace team till about the 19.5 mark. Obviously was beyond my ability as the wheels fell off about 20.5. I walk/ran the last 10k or so.
What would you do differently?:

Pace a little slower, but I was true to my marathon MO.
Post race
Warm down:

Got woozy after crossing the finish line so sat down in the shade. Repeated the stand up woozy/Sit down process about 10 times before I started to get some hydration back in me.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Temps climbed fast and I think I got a bit dehydrated. No cramps, but my quads just HURT the last 10k.

Perhaps that HIM I did 3 weeks ago?

Event comments:

The organization of this race is 2nd to none! Crowd support is beyond description. If you're a marathoner in the midwest you should definitely try it.

Nice race!!  Dehydrating can kill a race - glad you were able to finish.  Are you feeling okay today?

Nice job. I ran on Sunday too and really hit the wall around the same spot. Miles 20-25 are tough enough, then add the HILLS and rising temps.

I just moved from Minneapolis to South Bend, IN. Running that marathon really made me miss the Twin Cities. I agree, if you're going to do a marathon, the Twin Cities should be at the top of your list (along with Chicago - my other marathon).

Way to shatter the 4hr mark!!!
