Total Time = 6h 01m 33s
Overall Rank = 53/106 w
Age Group = 35-39
Age Group Rank = 12/24
Pre-race routine:

PB and J at 5 am. Left house at 5:30 and to the race site about 6 am.
Event warmup:

None really
Swim
  • 46m 1s
  • 2112 yards
  • 02m 11s / 100 yards
Comments:

Very poor swim. Was too nervous at the start and couldn't get the breathing right until half-way. Got way off course in the early part and lost at least 1-2 minutes.
What would you do differently?:

Find a way to calm down in the beginning. Better navigating
Transition 1
  • 03m 2s
Comments:

Trouble getting the wet suit off. I think after the overall poor swim it just took me a while to get it together. Ate one gel.
Bike
  • 3h 21m 17s
  • 56 miles
  • 16.69 mile/hr
Comments:

I really feel I did my best. I didn't want to push too hard and die on the run. I was hoping it would be faster, but not bad for 90% of training done on the trainer. Ate a total of 4 gels and drank Gatorade Performance.
What would you do differently?:

More training on the road, although I don't see that happening until children get older.
Transition 2
  • 01m 53s
Run
  • 1h 49m 27s
  • 13.1 miles
  • 08m 21s  min/mile
Comments:

Felt tired, but not to the point of no return. Was able to maintain a good pace for the most part. I was getting a bit dehydrated by the end. Ate 2 gels.
What would you do differently?:

Other than drinking more, probable push harder on the bike if I could.
Post race
What limited your ability to perform faster:

A poor swim. Not enough time available for actual road biking.

Event comments:

Volunteer were great I thought.

Great race! I think your bike time was great for someone who mostly rides on the trainer. Great job recovering from a tough swim; great run!!

Congratulations on a great race. I am impressed with your run time. In my opinion, that is a stellar time! How old are your children? My husband and I alternate training and racing to accomodate our girls (4 and 2). It can be tough so I can relate to your time constraints with your children. Way to go!
