Precipitation
Total Time = 3h 25m 49s
Overall Rank = 429/454
Age Group = 30-34
Age Group Rank = 44/45
Pre-race routine:

hit snooze twice and then rolled out of bed. Had a protein shake and drove into pinehurst. Had to pick up packet, get numbered, pick up timing chip and rack up the old bike. Spent a while in line for the porta poties. Note to self, dont eat ground beef tacos the night before the race. To spicy equals upset stomach.
Event warmup:

Other than the walk from the parking lot and a few stretches before the swim I diid no real warm up.
Swim
  • 31m 27s
  • 1640 yards
  • 01m 55s / 100 yards
Comments:

My time on my watch and the time listed are off due to my pit stop at the can after the swim and before entering the transition area.Out of the water in 32 minutes, bathroom for 13 minutes. At the second turn I developed severe gas pains, sorry for anyone who swam behind me. I also need to work on my stroke because I was pulling to the left and actually did two half circles on the course. I blame this on the fact that I was trying not to crap myself for 800 yards.
What would you do differently?:

No tacos the night before, get rid of all waste before race...
Transition 1
  • 02m 24s
What would you do differently?:

Nothing
Bike
  • 1h 28m 35s
  • 24.85 miles
  • 16.83 mile/hr
Comments:

I enjoyed this ride, would have liked a long sleeve shirt as my arms were freezing but overall I was happy with my ride
What would you do differently?:

Drink more water, bring a snack to eat.
Transition 2
  • 02m 4s
Comments:

This went quick. I will bring something to eat like sport jelly beans before the run.
Run
  • 1h 07m 31s
  • 6.21 miles
  • 10m 52s  min/mile
Comments:

first mile was a little hard on the legs. mile 2-4 went extremely well, hit a wall at mile 5, had to walk a few times. this was upsetting. mile 6.2 was able to run strong.
What would you do differently?:

Need to refuel before run, felt my energy depleting every mile.
Post race
Warm down:

Packed up my stuff, ate a banana and a cookie?. Walked to the car and drove home in the rain, glad that this weather held off until after the race

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Over all I was happy with my performance, I am upset at my stomach for quiting on me. Also ran out of fuel, need to work on this

Event comments:

Looking forward to next year, I plan to beat my time like a red headed step child

Coffee always clears out my bowels.  But way to stick it through.  What matters is that you cross that line.  Awesome race.

MMmmmmmmm.....tacos!

Sorry to hear about the GI crap (literally heh heh).  Despite it all, you stuck with it.  Congrats on your finish and like you said - beat the heck out of it next year.

And I thought it was the natural occurring hydrogen sulfide stinking up the water. LOL now I know. Now I have another reason to learn to swim faster. Great job on a tough course and on a less than perfect race day.
