I guess running with all those other people got my competitive spirit up. It got kind of boring doing three loops of the park but my long runs had to be done and it was nice to do it with so many people. The last five miles is where you see my times drop off. My knee started to hurt and I stopped and walked through the water stops at this point stretching out my knees and hamstring. The last mile was brutal. Since this was only a training run, I didn't want to go all out on it and risk hurting myself. With my goal of beating three hours, I exceeded my expectations with with 2:55:04. :) What would you do differently?: More body glide on my boobies. You think I would learn by now and remember to use body glide liberally on them. Major chaffage. But so far thats the only spot that got affected. Oh and keep up with that weight lifting and deep stretching I've been talking about. All I could think on the run is if I followed that plan my knee wouldn't be in the condition that its in. Overall run is only average and not great because of the last five miles and the pain in my knee. Post race
Warm down: Stretch, Stretch, and more stretching and with the RICE method being applied to my right knee. Probably get another ice pack for my left knee to keep it happy too. What limited your ability to perform faster: Knee pains. :( Event comments: This was a good way for me to put a long run in for the marathon. All the people out there running that distance helped to keep me motivated and to keep going. Going home you could tell who ran the race. It cracked me up. Everyone was doing the funny walk that only happens after you run so many miles. Going down into the subway down the stairs was killer. I employed a method one of the other girls did, and just went down them really fast. It seemed to work. :) Sorry to all the people who were standing next to me. I know I stunk. :) It made me just want to keep my race number on so people knew I looked nasty because I ran 18 miles and not that I enjoyed being smelly. Last updated: 2006-08-06 12:00 AM

Calmly headed out of the apartment and headed to the city. Normally I'm making a mad dash around my apartment trying to get all my stuff together. It helped that it was a late start this year of 9:30AM. Got to Central Park with 45 minutes to spare. Lucky me I used the port-a-potties before it got crowded. Checked in and got my race shirt. They actually had a small! So that made my day. Took 2 gels with me on the run. Drank 8 oz of gatorade and 8 oz of water.
Streched, and I mean really stretched. This would be one of my first major long runs before Philly and I was scared my ITB would give out. Stretched for 20 minutes with a little warm up run over to the start.
