Three RIvers 40 Miler Ultra - Run

Run
Comments: There was a little controversy about the real length of the race. we're thinking it was closer to 45 miles. miles 10-20 were S L O W. and there is NO WAY we ran a 23 minute mile, not matter how difficult this course was! The course was almost entirely single track, rolling to small hills. It was not as difficult as Dances with Dirt, yet is was more technical. you might not understand this unless you actually experience it. DWD had steeper climbs as oppose to this race where your eyes had to focus on the ground the ENTIRE race or you might tumble because of tricky footing. we kept our eyes glued to the ground and we STILL tumbled:) It was OMG fun. hammies were tight from mile 5 on. knees were painful from about 20 on. (i think the red clay might've had someting to do with that??) but the run was very cool. we were all about doing the 25run/3walk thing but on single track with a big ol' line it's difficult. we didn't start walking until the late teens early 20s. yeah, i know, that's stoopid, live and learn. fit took two tumbles. the first was when she was explaining to people "i fall when i say...poison(crash)...ivy" she banged up a leg pretty good. the second time was...? who knows why! she just ran right into a tree! i was able to watch this occur, which caused me to loose bladder control, temporarily. yep, i peed, just a little:) nothing funnier than watching your friend run into a tree. well maybe she could tell you different. i hear my slow motion slide down a 10 foot verticle drop while hanging onto a cup of gatorade and animal crackers in one hand and a handful of gummy bears in the other causing me to scrape my armpit down a tree is pretty freakin funny. and yes, i did save the food. come on people, i'm not that stoopid! why unwrap yourself from the tree when you could risk dropping food? What would you do differently?: do the walk/run thing?? nah. Post race
Warm down: ate some cheetos while i watched shannon dance to big willie. What limited your ability to perform faster: laughing hysterically, trees attacking my friend, trees attacking me, taking 5 min+ station breaks, the lack of glucose in my muscles after 9 hours?? i can't complain too much, it hadn't yet been a month since our last ultra. yeah, we're not too bright:) Event comments: i'm convinced that ultras are feeding frenzies. i think both fit and i gained weight during this event. damn it hurt, and i can't wait to do it again.
