Pre-race routine:

took the train into town (an hour fifteen - my normal commute). met up with my pace bunny friend, wandered around and watched her eat free things. pre-race food: bagel and yogurt smoothie on train.
Event warmup:

portapotty lines, like usual. 8000 women means a very long line.
Run
  • 1h 28m 17s
  • 6.2 miles
  • 14m 14s  min/mile
Comments:

oi. had planned to do a 7:3 run/walk. managed two-ish reps, then needed to back down. I do far better when it's not so hot out though. walked more that I wanted, but I managed to finish without needing the med tent, so I met my goal there.
What would you do differently?:

um, train. I knew when I signed up that this was well beyond my current level of run ability, but I wanted to push myself, and since this 10K has a sizeable contingent of walkers, I knew I wouldn't be last.
Post race
Warm down:

stumbled around and got cranky at the women who were literally walking away from the food table with BOXES of food. really sucked, especially since there were still people out on the course. I was totally in need of salt, so my friend stole a bag of potato chips out of a box of food someone had next to them. we saw someone walking off with EIGHT bananas. sheesh.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

lack of training, weather.

Event comments:

loved this race, will do it again next year. hopefully it won't be so hot. also hopefully I will be in better shape.

Nice job Monica.  I'd do it if I don't have to work.  Company doesn't observe Columbus Day.

Sucks to see people taking away food.

Will see you at the Feaster!
