Precipitation
Total Time = 2h 41m 59s
Overall Rank = 189/454
Age Group = 40-44
Age Group Rank = 24/59
Pre-race routine:

Woke up at 6, ate a pb bagel and some fig newtons, walked outside and realized that it was freaking cold!! Went back and put on every piece of clothing that I had with me.
Event warmup:

There was no such thing as warming up, unless you include peeing in my wetsuit.
Swim
  • 27m 54s
  • 1640 yards
  • 01m 42s / 100 yards
Comments:

I felt like I had a good swim, I really tried to push it being that this was the last race and I had nothing to loose. Sighted well, caught a lot of the earlier waves and overall felt good about the swim. For a few seconds I actually had the delusion of being first, then I saw that the other green caps were just farther in front.
What would you do differently?:

Not much, swim faster I guess.
Transition 1
  • 02m 28s
Comments:

I was kinda figuring on a slow transition, it was cold and I was determined not to freeze on the bike. I dried off a little and put on socks and a jacket, which I would not normally do. Glad I did.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing
Bike
  • 1h 19m 19s
  • 24.85 miles
  • 18.80 mile/hr
Comments:

I kept hearing this strange whining sound as I was riding, Oh, it was just me! I coulda sworn I had flat tires, my brake was rubbing, etc. I suck on the bike, got passed by a lot of people, quite depressing.I got to see Jeff out there toward the end, that was cool.
What would you do differently?:

I need to ride more, I knew going into this race it was going to hurt but that's no excuse. I think my bike time was 6 minutes slower than last year.
Transition 2
  • 01m 31s
Comments:

Nothing spectacular.
Run
  • 50m 49s
  • 6.21 miles
  • 08m 11s  min/mile
Comments:

Ran out of T2 with Jeff, my goal for this year was to not walk at all on the hills, something I have had to do the last 2 years. I think the cool weather helped, I felt good the whole run, not the fastest but overall happy with it.
What would you do differently?:

Pick up the pace
Post race
Warm down:

Met my wife at the finish, yeah for the cowbell!
I was freezing again so put on everything I could find

What limited your ability to perform faster:

The bike was and is my weakest link, the run I can deal with.

Event comments:

Ran into Jeff and Wakeman at the finish, I'm sorry I missed everyone else. I saw the BT sign as we were walking back to the car, nice job 1 Foot, sorry I missed it at the end of the run. I was bummed that I was slower this year and I kinda knew I missed out on getting into the invitational, I was 21st going into this race and would have had to pull out a great race to get in. Next year.

Nice race!  Congrats!

I think 2:41 is a great time.  I'm new to this and would love to get a 18 mph speed on the bike and a 8 min pace on the run.  Nice work.

Sounds like a fun course though with the hills and scenery.  I'm glad my bike training routes here in Charlotte include some hills so I can train properly.  Great job!!!!

Great job on the course.  It was a difficult day out there.  I know for CERTAIN that you will go to the Invitational next year.  No worries.

The hard part about Triathlon is knowing what to work on.  Lots of time in the offseason to hammer the bike.  I have all the faith in you.

Nice job! Great swim and run! That bike was tough -- rough roads and lousy weather (not to mention a few hills).

Keep hammering away in the offseason and you'll definitely be in the Invitational next year!

Great race in sub-optimal conditions. Lots of time in the next few months to get in lots of bike miles. Keep up the good work!
