Lake Lanier Island, Georgia
United States
Overcast
Total Time = 1h 14m 10s
Overall Rank = 43/600
Age Group = M35-39
Age Group Rank = 11/77
Pre-race routine:

Had flat tire on front. Found out that my new wheels won't work with short stem tube. Thanks for Roswell Bikes. Got me out of sorts a bit, but all turned out well. Woke at 5:45. Left at 6:15. Got to the part in plenty of time.
Swim
  • 07m 42s
  • 400 yards
  • 01m 55s / 100 yards
Comments:

I was not breathing well. I found myself holding my breath a lot - not good. Plus, it was very crowded - lots of contact pretty much the whole way. I was shocked to finish #10 in my age group. At one point, I was treading water just to let the crowd thin out a bit!
What would you do differently?:

Warm up in the water.
Transition 1
  • 03m 41s
Comments:

My chain dropped at the mount point which frustrated me. It took me what seemed an eternity to get my wetsuit over the timing chip and to get my chain back on the bike. ARGH. Oh well, on to my favorites...BIKE, T2, RUN, and FINISH!
What would you do differently?:

Check my bike more thoroughly prior to race. Practice getting my wetsuit off of the ankles.
Bike
  • 37m 32s
  • 13 miles
  • 20.78 mile/hr
Comments:

Bike felt great. I got passed by no one. It felt good to be seemingly making up ground after a disaster in T1.
Transition 2
  • 01m 46s
Comments:

Tbe dismount area was crowded and had a steep incline entering the transition area. It was okey - I need to do better.
Run
  • 23m 31s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 07m 34s  min/mile
Comments:

Run felt terrible up to mile 1, but then I settled in and ran faster. Mile 2 wasn't marked which is usually where I try to kick it up. I had to go by my watch.

Great race despite the mishap at T1!  At least you had a wetsuit on, it was freezing before the start without one!!

Great job! I think T1 was frustrating for everyone in one form or fashion. It would've been better if the bike dismount had been further from the crest of that hill.

Great job on the race- you crushed it on the bike! I have not seen a sub 3 minute t1- so you did quite well desite the chain and wetsuit issues. Good luck on your next event.
