A bunch of friends!

Run
  • 09m 31s
  • 2 kms
  • 04m 46s  min/km
Comments:

I'm still not comfortable running at this pace. Must train harder on the run. Completed the run in 24th place overall; Mayde was only a few seconds behind as 1st female.

What would you do differently?:

Oops, I gotta fartlek.

Transition 1
  • 00m 46s
Comments:

Passed a couple of guys in transition.
What would you do differently?:

Nothing really.
Swim
  • 08m 54s
  • 400 meters
  • 02m 13s / 100 meters
Comments:

Passed eight swimmers in the first two hundred meters, but it took me forever with so much traffic. Got passed twice by two swimming non-runners.
What would you do differently?:

Felt really sloppy. I wanted to go sub-8 min, but just barely made it sub-9 min.

Transition 2
  • 00m 47s
Comments:

Another good transition. Came out of the pool in 16th place.
What would you do differently?:

Not much.

Comments:

It was funny that people whom I passed on the swim and never repassed me were "finishing" already as I was on my last lap!

Let's just say that being tired probably affected the ability of counting to 10 for some people.

I think the same thing happened to Mayde on the women's side. She finished third (33:22), but under very suspicious conditions regarding 1st and 2nd place.

I guess the honor's system didn't really work this time, but we tried not to let it get to us since we did this race for fun and "speed" training.

What would you do differently?:

I need to train at faster speeds. I see intervals and accelerations in my future. I can deal with being a slow swimmer, but I hate not even remotely feeling like a runner.
Post race
What limited your ability to perform faster:

Can't whine too much since my goal was to go sub-30 min and race at a steady pace, and I just barely did. Fast transitions helped in this super-sprint.

Event comments:

Can't really talk about organization since we organized this informal race among some of the runners, swimmers and triathletes who train at La Trinidad facilities. Part of our intention was to promote multisport.

Lots of single-sports experts raced. It was a nice sight to see the track people flying on the run. However, the first three male spots went to triathletes!

Another good race my friend, and a nice way to spend a midweek evening

Was it not hard to swim after the run ? I tried that once, ran to the pool and it took forever for my legs to get into “swimming mode”

It seems like a very cool race, 30 minutes of “race training”.
