Subject: Dr. Who?

Really are there others out there that have never heard of Dr. Who? I happened to catch the last half of one of the new series the other night. The next morning at breakfast I was telling the wife about it and she was looking at me like I had two heads… She never heard of Dr. Who.. I was never a big follower of the original but I knew the ideas behind it..

here's a link to get you caught up if your like my wife..

Wow, talk about a blast from the past!  I was a huge Dr Who fan way back when.  I started watching the series in the 70's when John Bertwee was the (3rd) doctor.  My favourite doctor was Tom Baker (the 4th doctor).  The worst doctor was the 6th, Colin Baker.  And my favourite bad guys ... the Daleks!

I am the biggest Dr. Who fan ever....I am religious, infact friends of mine are having me over every thursday (tonight...yeah) to watch episodes of the old series.  But yes there are people who have never heard of it.  Or don't know the basic premise of a series that just got added into the guenness book of world records as the longest running TV show in its Genre.

Machiavelo - 2006-10-12 6:57 AM Wow, talk about a blast from the past!  I was a huge Dr Who fan way back when.  I started watching the series in the 70's when John Bertwee was the (3rd) doctor.  My favourite doctor was Tom Baker (the 4th doctor).  The worst doctor was the 6th, Colin Baker.  And my favourite bad guys ... the Daleks!

My favorite was Peter Davidson...I thought he brought some sarcasm and dignity to the roll...definately a switch from Tom Baker's quirky Dr.  I actually am one of the few that liked Colin Baker, he kept some of the sarcasm and humor of Peter, but was much darker.  Almost schizoid. I liked many of the scripts for him as well as Sylvestor McCoy.  I am not a fan of Jon Pertwee, whose son is an up and coming actor...see Dog Soldiers (werewolves my other love) Favorite campanion of the old series is probably Tegan...but Ace was cool too...I think Rose is fantastic in the new series.  And favorite villian is most likely the Master...

Tom Baker was definitely the best Doctor.

I remember watching Dr. Who as well. The opening credits used to scare the crap out of me when I was a kid. That music!

Gallifrayans Unite!

I started watching the DVDs while on the trainer. I also listen to some of the fan produced shows when doing long runs on the track.

I'm currenty training through the William Hartnell (first Doctor) years...it shouldn't take too long...not many of them are released / survived. The stories are one extreme or the other...either really good or really bad.

Tom Baker and Peter Davidson were probably the best two WHO. Pertwee and Colin Baker didn't do much for me. The movie versions with Peter Cushing...bizarre compared to the Hartnell originals (which are available among the available/ intact.) Never saw the TV movie with the 8th Doctor.

As for villians... Daleks get my vote.

Favorite sidekicks: Rose from the new one, and can't wait to see the return of K-9.

I need to get my TV hooked up again so I can catch the new Doctor (I'm in the middle of a renovation and the TV is out of commission 'til I'm done). I loved the first season of the new series. I have to say Eccleson was almost as good as Tom Baker.

another vote for Tom Baker...

This thread sure brings back some old memories. Remember the opening? That's how I would visualize being on LSD.

I have a scarf. I won it in a raffle at the local Dr. Who fan club back when I was a teenager.

Love Dr. Who! The 4th and 5th doctors being my favorite (I had a crush on Peter Davidson as a kid). I think my favorite companion was Romana II, and she got to keep K-9. Least favorite was Adric. Sooo annoying. And that dorky little math star of his.
