This weather has me riding on my indoor trainer and dreaming of pure speed on the bike. You see, I want to go fast, very fast. Not just average fast and not just quick, but motor bike fast. I want to get speeding tickets on a highway. I want to make a VW beetle jealous. I want to outrun a greyhound (the one that usually chases me on my farm road ride). Now that I am getting my engine operating at peak efficiency, I want to get a machine that will allow me to "fly".

I am getting ready sell my truck (it's paid off) and get a bike with all the goodies. I am looking at about 5K spending spree. I want Zipp 808's and a carbon frame, but which one? I know that fit will determine the perfect one, but what would you choose as the perfect bike?

Did I mention that I want to fly?

With your size 200lbs+  would go with titanium Like Litespeed Blade http://www.litespeed.com/bikes/2006/tri/blade_.aspx and some ot the 808 or 606 zipps Clydesdale http://www.zipp.com/Products/Wheels/tabid/85/CategoryID/2/List/1/Level/1/ProductID/57/Default.aspx?SortField=ISBN%20DESC,ISBN%20DESC.  I would give my left nut for one of setup like this.  With 6Al/4V Titanium Alloy you can't do much better and it will last you a life time and live to see another day when you crash going really fast.  Bigger guys should shy away from some carbon bikes thay will flex too much under your power.  What you through down on a ti bike will go down as power.

I think you may be in for a let down if you expect instant speed from a high end bike.  Not that we aren't all dreaming of owning a $15,000 pro time trial machine, but don't go nuts thinking you are going to be Lance Armstrong as soon as you get a $4000 bike.

What are you riding now and why do you feel it is holding you back?

A little off topic...but go down some awesome hills and you do feel like you are flying....last week we climbed some nasty hills 9140 feet of them, but the downhills at 50+mph in aero on a carbon tri bike almost made up for the pain of climbing. It was so much fun....

Well, I am riding a 13 year old heavy steel bike with loads of miles. At this point, it is not about what I need, it is about what I want. Now, i know that I am not going be anything like Lance or any other pro or elite cyclist, but at the same time I want to have every advantage on my side. I want to "have fun" and having a super-bike will be fun for "me". I have been fortunate to have ridden an all carbon frame with Zipp wheels and man, that was fun. There may not have been a huge difference in speed, but it was "fun". Especially compared to the bike I currently ride.

So if I were flying on a bike and did an endo... would I (for the briefest of moments) be airborn at the same speed?

I just bought a '06 Felt S22 for $1999 and it fly's compared to my old RB.

Your request has been made and is waiting for you, but you'll need to have a garage sale too because its $7249!
