Pre-race routine:

And here I thought I was so good. I had the bike in the Tracker the night before. I had everything packed. I even had a "dry" bag because I knew it was going to rain. I left early enough to get a good parking spot. I get all the way to the event, find a great parking spot - right next to a yellow Corvette. As I was getting out of the Tracker I looked over at the Corvette and noticed his helmet sitting in the back. It was then that it dawned on me - yep - I forgot my helmet. I had 30 minutes to get home and get my helmet.
Event warmup:

My warm-up consisted of the 10 mile sprint back to my apartment, getting my helmet, another 10 mile sprint back to the event (in the car people), then running over to the transistion area one minute before they closed.
Swim
  • 06m 5s
  • 300 meters
  • 02m 02s / 100 meters
Comments:

Oh I love this pool. I have not swam in a 50 meter lap pool before. It was quite a bit different then the 25 meter pool I am used to. Not having to turn around as much resulted in longer stretches of swim. I was not used to that.
What would you do differently?:

I think that I started off too fast and was a bit burned out about half way. I had to slow my pace to ease my breathing. I think I need to work on being consistant at the start.
Transition 1
  • 02m 9s
Comments:

Overall the T1 was not too bad. My largest problem was that my stuff was on the other side of the rack from the bike - thanks to me getting there at the last minute. The other problem was that I could not find my socks. What possessed me to put them in my HELMET I'll never know.
What would you do differently?:

Get there earlier (without forgetting my helmet) and DON"T put the socks IN the helmet!!
Bike
  • 37m 54s
  • 12 miles
  • 19.00 mile/hr
Comments:

Seeing as the roads were wet it seemed that my speed was down a bit. The wind was coming from the east so the first long leg uphill was into the wind. I was also a lot more cautious with the turns to avoid slipping.
What would you do differently?:

Not much more I could have done during the race - except push myself harder. I think I need to work on hills a bit more so that I can recover quicker when cresting the hill.
Transition 2
  • 01m 1s
Comments:

I think I did excellent in this area - considering my shoes were on the other side of the bike rack. The dismoust worked perfectly.
What would you do differently?:

If I had everything staged on the same side of the bike rack I would have improved my time by a few seconds.
Run
  • 24m 16s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 07m 48s  min/mile
Comments:

My legs did not feel like rubber too much after starting the run. I think those bricks I was doing worked well.
What would you do differently?:

Pushed myself harder.
Post race
Event comments:

Considering that it was pouring for a good portion of the race I think that it was well organized and the volunteers were pleasant.

you were fast in the pool even more congrats because it was not the usual lenght (wich can alter your pacing). Wonder what  would've happened if you had decided to go barefoot and just found your sock at T2 hihihi! good race

That's pretty funny about forgetting your helmet.  I'm glad it all worked out.  Aren't 50 meter pools a dream?  I don't know that I would have done so well racing for the first time in a 50.  Sorry we didn't catch-up with you after the race.

 Great job!
