Bay State Marathon
50F / 10C
Sunny
Total Time = 2h 14m 32s
Overall Rank = 796/946
Age Group = 40-44
Age Group Rank = 85/108
Pre-race routine:

Up at 5:45, had the usual Cheerios and blueberries and coffee. Left at 6:50 to pick up Tri team mate and drive to the race. Arrived at the arena (woo-hoo, indoor registration area, it was pretty chilly outside) and quickly found OnTheRun, who was doing is first mary, and DK and TGAP.
Event warmup:

Not much, a bit of stretching and walking at to the start line. We ended up at the end of the pack!
Run
  • 2h 14m 32s
  • 13.1 miles
  • 10m 16s  min/mile
Comments:

Ran most of the race with TGAP and DK at a good comfortable pace of 10 - 10:30/mile. Caught up with OnTheRun in the marathon line and we ran with him for @ 1.5 miles.

I ate a gel @10minues before start and then again at 50 minutes and 1:40. Around 9 miles I made a pit stop and then picked up my pace to catch up with TGAP and DK. After cresting the hill on the last bridge I felt the need to kick it up and ran the last 3 miles or so at 9:20/mile. The finish around the warning track in the baseball park is the best!
What would you do differently?:

Post race
Warm down:

Watched tri team mate and TAGP and DK finish and waited in line for post-race food. Yummy soup, pbj sandwiches, bananas and oranges. We munched sitting in the stadium and got to see the first marathoners come in...boy were they fast!

All in all I had a great time! This is the first race where I've had company running and it makes the time go so much faster. Thanks guys!

Event comments:

Maybe next year return for the full marathon???? stay tuned :)

My version is "maybe next year I'll be good/fast enough to run the a 1/2 mary and kick up the pace after 10 miles".

Nice job, Joanne, and thanks for hanging with us.

Last year was your first 1/2 mary, I remember seeing how jazzed you were!! I reckon that you were just as jazzed, as we are all for you, now that you are a 'veteran' !!!

Congrats on your progress and success!! Keep healthy!!

You may be fast, but your memmory seems to be fading If I remember correctly you did run/race with us last year in the snow for a short 5 miles Nice job, and sorry you could not hang around any longer. I do understand, wet and cold for an extra 2 hours must have sucked for TAGP and DK
