Subject: A first for me

I went to the park last night and ran for a full hour non-stop.  I was only able to log 5.1 miles and just under 12 min mile average, and my splits need some work but this is a personal best for me.  I have never ran for a full hour non-stop.  I had to post it somewhere so I am posting here just to pat myself on the back.

I am training for my first season of triathlons and this run has really gotten me excited about next season (officially starting Nov. 6th).  I may need to do some runs before next season just to start my collection of numbers and whatever else schwag I get from races that I enter.

On a side note: thanks for getting me started on the right path to all of you guys that post and express patience to those who post questions that have been asked repeatedly on this website.  It helps us new guys really get going on the right foot.

Thanks folks.  From just one of the many newbies on this website I appreciate all you guys offer.

Right on!

Don't be afaird to throw in some walking in there too.  Your HR avg was pretty high.  Last year I started doing 5 milers and was told to make sure the HR doesn't go above Z2 so I had to walk at times.  This will build your overall aerobic base better and eventually allow you to run the whole distance without walking.

Congrats on a great accomplishment.

Hopefully 5-6 months from now you will look back and remember the day you finally ran for an hour...let out a little chuckle...because 2 hours is a common run.  I did this all season with milestones!

Yeah, I remember hitting a milestone like that and it is a great feeling.  Congratulations.  Once you know you can run for a long time it's a blast.

First off, thanks for all of the advice, encouragement and inspires that you guys have put in my logs. I appreciate all of them. It was today that I realized I truly made the right decision to join this group. With guys like you all around you can't help but be successful and excited about your training and races. I can't wait to start next season so that I can begin to meet all of you guys. Thanks again.

MarkQuiet - 2006-10-26 9:48 AM Wonderful run!! DFW area huh? Where do you run at?

I live and train mostly in Euless/Bear Creek. There is a trail that connects 3 parks here in Euless and it about 6 miles I think round trip depending on where you start and finish. That is where I do most of my running. The park that I start at is Bob Eden, the one I turn around in is Bear Creek, I can't remember the one in the middle.
