Autumn, you are not getting me.. I TOO hate smokers... but I understand it is a right. God what if most people on BT hated polls, then you would have nothing to post.... then where would you be. But instead if they dont want to take the poll they skip the post... Kind of like the "bike porn" thread of the summertime...

Sure.  Lung cancer is bad for you.   Heart disease is bad for you.

So Dr. Mcdreamy you are saying, I am more likely getting lung cancer by eating in a resturant and breathing in second hand smoke once at week at Outback than I would be living in LA or riding my bike in busy traffic behind car and bus exuast???

That's because it's probably not.  The problem is that that is not the original statement you made.

If you'd claimed those conditions in your original statement, then it would have been correct.  The problem is that those are made up conditions and not realistic in the real world.  People exposed to secondhand smoke are exposed for far longer a period of time than those directly exposed to the exhaust of a car.

And then we're only talking about long term effects.  You wanna go tell the asthmatic who had an asthma attack because of smoke that you think it's ok to smoke around them?

We all have rights, just because they may not sound good or desirable (ie quitting your job because it is smokey), it is still your right.
Obviously Smokers spend enough money or the businesses would ban smoking (ON THEIR OWN) in their resturant. Seems to me it is a economics thing. More smokers must go out to eat than non smokers or every resturant would be smoke free... 
 I am saying let the market make the rule not government....
