I mostly agree with the OP (ie, I don't think everyone needs to own a gun).

However, I'm a gun-toting liberal. Does that just f*** with your head or what, Mike?!

Ditto.

OK, listen up....all you gun-toting liberals lay down your guns, back up and get back in the box!

  5.  If guns are outlawed, can we use swords?

I like this one.  Don't like guns..they are noisey and impersonal.  With a sword, I can look into the eyes of my prey before I kill them.  Oh I am not against guns...and I am gay and a liberal...Own many swords and know how to use them....what box do I go to...

Here in Cincy pro-concealed carry advocates have been on a roll lately.  In the last few weeks a would be robber and a would-be carjacker got their come uppance to the tune of a high caliber chest massage.

No stats on how many people accidentally shot themselves with their weapons over the same time period in the same area are available at this time...

No, no, you are all confused. The Canadian Constitution includes the right to go to Florida in the winter and bare our arms.

Man, I'm glad the original post was a joke. It was a joke, right? RIGHT???

4.  Gun control is not about guns; it's about control

NO, religion is about control.  I am not against people who own guns, rather, I am for people who choose not to own them.

That's why i don't believe in religion....

The 2nd Amendment guarantees a right to bear arms.

When the 2nd Amendment was written and enacted, there were essentially 2 kinds of arms: muskets and cannons. Yet no one was allowed to own a cannon.

Discuss.

WHERE does it say I can't own a cannon?

I know a guy in a local gun club who owns a cannon. I'm not about to tell him he can't have it.

Mark

"Yet no one was allowed to own a cannon."

I'm pretty sure Mike was talking about when the ammendmant was enacted, not today.

Again, who said they weren't allowed to own a cannon? My guess is that it wasn't prohibited, it was just something they couldn't afford, or had no interest in owning. Most of the guns owned back then were used for hunting and self protection. A cannon is rather difficult to use for either of those purposes. If you wish to debate the role of artillery in the defense, I am more than willing to do so.

Yeah...it would be tough to go squirrel hunting with a cannon :-)

From an outsider looking at the US now it looks like the whole country opted for that with your Patriot Act and Terrorist Surveillance Act. As I said - I'm an outsider so maybe I am missing the nuances of these acts but they seem like curiosities in a country where the citizenry value their liberty.

I'm pretty sure the president/house/congress did that without the approval of most americans. Actually, I have no idea what the american public thinks of the patriot act in terms of for/against, but I wouldn't be surprised if those living outside the US received more accurate media related education on the topic than those of us living IN the country.

49.5% of us did not vote for the current leadership.  And it is not like our Legistlature cares what the public thinks anyway.

do any of us KNOW anyone effected by the Patiot Act?  I don't, just a thought.

BTW here in AZ anyone but a convicted felon may own and carry a firearm as long as it's not concealed.  if you want to cover it all you have to do is pass a simple 8 hour concealed cary class.

I know, it is an absolute attack on our personal freedoms. We are looking more and more like Canada everyday......it's ironic that it is "conservative" leadership that is leading us down this slippery slope.

You think a bunch of our buddies can form a militia and take over the government with our hunting rifles?.......kind of sounds like amendment #2 is a little obsolete.

Are you suggesting that the "freedom of the press" thingy we hear so much about in school is a farce?

There are plenty of resources for Americans to learn and understand the Patriot act. The only problem is that you have to do your homework and most Americans are unwilling to to do that.

I don't either.... It just gives a lot of people something else gripe about.... Like I mentioned in another thread, things have changed in this World and you have to deal with it.......Suck it up and move on....

On the concealed class, I went through it here in Texas.... I do wish they would use a silhoutte that was a little smaller....we had people missing these. It is out of control to miss a target half...that is the size of a NFL lineman in a situation where there is no stress.
