Run
Comments: Well, it is what it is: a good PR, but not the best that I think I'm capable of. That elusive sub-20 run continues to be just beyond my reach on race day -- I can do a sub-20 in training, but not when it comes to the race. Why not? I think it's got to be mental. I'm too scared of going out fast and not being able to finish strong, so I go out medium, then try to pick it up in the last mile. A 5K's just too short for that. I gotta bust a nut out there to get it done, and I can't be afraid to blow up. Oh, and the sun came out for the short 10 minutes before the race started, and then for about a half an hour after that. So it started to rain again just as the runners were coming to the finish. AND, BTW: 3rd in my AG. What would you do differently?: Run faster. Suggest to race organizer that they move back to September. Post race
Warm down: Banannnanananannnananana. What limited your ability to perform faster: Space and time. Event comments: I liked this race better last year, but this year the rain just got them far too disorganized. They weren't ready to announce results until more than an hour after all the age group winners were in -- that's just crazy. They're nice people, and it's a sweet thing to do in memory of their KIA. But next year will be their third year, so they gotta be getting a bit more organized. Last updated: 2006-10-28 12:00 AM

Woke up at 8; called around to figure out who was wimping out and who was going to cowboy up for the race. After a long night of blustery winds, sheets of heavy rain, and a morning of near-sleet, quite a few dropped out. Basically, the only people who still wanted to do the race where the people who had registered in advance and didn't want to waster their $18.
One cup of coffee and small bowl of cereal at 8AM before the race at 10. Drove to the race, jogged around a bit and tried to determine how much clothing I needed. Went light at the end -- shorts, long sleeve tech shirt, vest, light gloves that I took off halfway through.
