Comments:

Started at the front of the pack. Had it in my psycho mind that maybe I could place. Haha! Maybe every fast runner took a pass on this race. No chance. I think I finished top 10 out of a couple of hundred. If I was a girl, I would have come in second. Fastest race to date. I know the Rose Bowl loop well and knew what to expect.

Ended up first in age group and 10th overall. Didn't stay around for the medals!
What would you do differently?:

Perhaps start a bit slower. I always get amped up at the start and have trouble running at a slower pace.
Post race
Warm down:

Stretched and got some food.

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Nothing.

Event comments:

Fun little community race. Raises money for homelss cats and dogs.

I'm sorry to have missed this one. Right in my back yard, practically, and a good cause to boot.

Sounds like things went very well for you. Pretty speedy! Congratulations!

Yeah, a lot of people and dogs were racing.

I tried to keep up with the quick winning girl. She blew by me early and kept a good 100 yard distance between us.

Tried to convice the wife to adopt a cat. There was a little cute one, but since we already have two, it could be dangerous to mix a 3rd one in the mix.

Cheers

I should have posted about it in the California section. Just seemed under the radar. I was planning on doing a 10k in Westlake, but Mike Ricci advised to mix it up. I had a poor 10k last weekend (relative to what I wanted to run)

Cheers

Smoking good time. And you placed first in the Age group. Woohoo !
It's Always good to set your sight on a stronger runner and try to hang on.
Well done. After you have raced longer distances , 5k are over so quick.

Yes. It was over in a heartbeat (or a few thousand). I have never even ran a pure 5k race before. Always at the end of a triathlon. So it felt great to have fresh legs and know the distance was much shorter than I was used to.

Next goal is to get down in the under 7 minute a mile category. Will take a lot of work. And a pacer!

Cheers
