[sappy]The minute my soon-to-be wife walked into the church for our wedding[/sappy]

Sappy? Here's an admission that may change the way I am perceived. I wasn't even able to recite my vows without the priest helping me. I just nodded and wished I'd packed some kleenex.

NOTE: Yes, a priest. I was married in a catholic church by a very liberal priest who didn't care that I was never baptised.

Don't worry, that hasn't changed the way I perceive you in the slightest.

The hot shower after doing anything sweaty or muddy.  The first good shower home from a camping trip.

Clean sheets (mentioned in the other thread, but worth mentioning twice!)

Working good soil in the garden.

The huge beds at nice hotels, with the jillion pillows.

Crap! Damned if I respond, damned if I don't (because I'm not baptised, of course).

Yeah, I'll cop to it, I'm a big crybaby when it comes to the people I love.

Some of mine have already been posted for others, but since they make ME feel good, I'll repeat ...

- That first Diet Coke in the morning

- The feeling of crisp clean sheets and freshly shaven and moisturized legs

- When an athlete takes a second during a grueling race to thank you for being there as a volunteer

- When my best friend's son hugs me for no apparent reason

- The total unconditional love of a dog

- The last moments at night before I go to sleep when Spot the Frenchie climbs under the covers, curls up against the small of my back and sighs as she nestles in tightly ... and when I playfully push against her ... she pushes back

- The comfort of knowing that any intruder in my house has to get past PeeDee before he can ever get to me ... and she'd die making sure that didn't happen

- The knowledge that my friends have seen the good, the bad and the ugly about me ... and they still love me more than words could express.

1 Foot, I count that last one as one of the "big things."

Preferably one pair of each ... with only mine required to be shaved.

You're so right ... but the little glimpses of realization I will count as a little thing. I'm not a terrible person or anything, but I'm constantly amazed that anyone likes me at all.

Fine. Only mine are required to be shaved AND moisturized ... although dry skin is kinda icky.

Remember the original premise ... The Little Things In Life That Really Feel Good? I think you're nitpicking "The Other Things In Life That Still Feel Pretty Damned Good Even Though They Could Feel A Little Bit Better With The Tweaking Of A Few Minor Details."

Finding out your niece is pursuing her dream of becoming a clothing designer and, in the process, returns to her childhood home in Italy and is reunited with her Italian father! I'm very happy for her!!!

I suppose the generalized version of that is: Hearing happy news about your family members.

My little 5 yr old "artist" that insists on coloring on walls, couches, etc. put an ink stamp on our kitchen cabinets and his sister's white walls the other day. This is about the 10th time he's 'destroyed' our house. So we tell him 'no trick or treating this year'. Of course, at 5, he wails for two days straight. This morning before work this conversation took place.

Artist: "Dad, I know I don't get to go trick or treating cuz I hurt the house again. Can I stay up with mom and hand out candy to the kids who DO get to go?"
Me: Yeah, sure buddy. Are you still mad about not going trick or treating?
Artist: a little, but I earned it. I really shouldn't hurt the house huh?
Me: Yeah, Do you know why?
Artist: Yeah, you go to work and make money and that pays for the house.
Me (now with a tear in my eye): that's right, it's expensive to pay for these things and mom and I expect you to respect them and not try to ruin things.
Artist: OK, I'll really try. See you tonight.

Wow, he may be starting to get it!!!!
BTW, I'm pretty sure I'll be taking him trick or treating tonight, just doesn't seem right for a 5yo to stay home.

Cheers!

Being in the woods, the smell of the trees and campfire, the sound of the crickets, the breeze that blows through your hair, the heat of the fire on your face and seeing all the shadows in the trees of your family and friends.
