Hello all!

Okay I am currently attending (graduating in December !!!! and grad school in the Spring see my blog for the story!!) from Salisbury University, basically a small school on the Eastern shore of Maryland.  Recently we had a meeting for a Tri club I was looking to help start at the school.  A topic came up of competing against other schools.  I was wondering to all of you out there in BT Land if you know any schools doing this also

.02   I wanna be sponsered by Clif Bar I don't like GU!

Yes there are other schools doing it!  There are three ways to compete against other schools (that I know of).  The first is at individual races.  Some races have a seperate collegiate division that ranks the teams against each other (ie the top 3 times are added together).  These are not very common, and the only one I know of is a local race put on by our (Texas A&M tri team) main sponsor.  The second way is to register your club with USAT, and they award points for competing in events, placing, etc.  Your club then ranked in your conference, or region.  The last way is to compete in the national championships.  This year they are going to be held in Tuscaloosa, Alabama.  Heres a link for more info on those http://www.usatriathlon.org/AthleteFocus/Collegiate/CollegiateNationals.aspx

Hope you get the club set up, and maybe Ill see you at nationals!

Earlier this year, some local university tri clubs formed their own West Coast conference. Check it out:
http://wcctc.pengra.com
http://www.triathletemag.com/Page349.aspx

I've done the races at both CSU Sacramento and UC Davis and they have a great, low-key, almost "home-grown" atmosphere. And they're cheap! (Low overhead.) Great for the community and the young athletes. Proceeds go to the host team.

open for students - alumni and Lawrence area triathletes.

I would love to be able to get some schools together to have a collage race other then what the USAT puts on because in order to be a usat sanctioned team you need to be a sport club at the school in order to do this you have to jump through a bunch of hoops and meetings etc.

I say if you are a full time student you should be able to race representing your school... ???

There's a huge collegiate triathlon scene; I went to nationals this spring, and it was incredible to see all the athletes.

Here's a link to the USAT website with any and all information that you might need.

EDIT: Wow, that was some thread necromancy... sorry to participate in it

Last I heard since starting this thread he has since graduated with his masters, changed schools and acquired a doctorate degree and is now teaching and spear heading triathlons as a collegiate sport.Laughing
